PM: ‘Two meetings, two offers’ – Milan ready for action ahead of the mercato

By Ben Dixon -

The summer mercato opens on Monday, and a report has claimed AC Milan are ready for business as they look to improve on last summer’s mercato and are preparing for everything.

Whilst the mercato opens after this weekend, the reality is that planning has been going on for months now probably since the end of the last summer mercato. Of course, plans change, and the players who were targeted in August of 2023 are not necessarily the same as those who may arrive in the summer of 2024, but the ideas have likely been around since then.

For example, Milan likely headed into the season with the knowledge a new striker was needed, and this was strengthened by the situation of Giroud, whose contract was expiring at the end of the season, signifying the need for investment in the position, regardless of his potential renewal.

Now, that need is still there, but there have been several months of legwork to identify a list of targets that could work for multiple different situations, and in recent weeks, as Pianeta Milan writes, these lists have been further evaluated after Paulo Fonseca’s arrival.

As important as incomings are, outgoings are also vital, and the outlet states that two ‘secret meetings’ have taken place after a football summit in London, and both meetings were regarding ‘two important offers’.

Rather than offers for the stars, it is believed that the offers are for Malick Thiaw and Ismael Bennacer. The former has received interest from Newcastle United, and the latter was from the Saudi Pro League, as was reported earlier today.

Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, but their departures could kick start the Rossoneri’s window with a substantial revenue boost, which would be welcomed with open arms.

  1. I’m surprised Newcastle want to do business with us again after the Tonali fiasco but if it’s true they’re offering 30mil for the gaffe machine we should take the money and run imo.

  2. Already one of the best passers on the pitch at 22… Fonseca is prioritizing possession. Highly values Mike for his on ball abilities…Thiaw would be someone he would pay a lot for…I don’t think Newcastle could afford him given their situation unless they move off of a few players.

  3. I think selling Thiaw instead of tomori will be a mistake. I like both of them, but tomori is older and injury prone. Bennacer is also the best midfielder in the club, so of course just like every summer, the ownership will sell him and buy another 5 mid level replacements for cheap…
