MN: Probable Milan XI to face Sassuolo – Fonseca rotates or does he?

AC Milan are preparing to face Sassuolo at San Siro tomorrow night, and Paulo Fonseca is expected to make several changes across the board.

Three games in seven days mean Fonseca almost is forced to rotate his squad, especially so considering his side plays again on Friday, and for this reason, changes are to be expected.

In defence, the Portuguese will have to make two changes due to medical reasons – Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez. However, the entire defence will be shifted, according to this evening’s predicted XI from Milan News.

Marco Sportiello will take the place of Maignan, with Davide Calabria, Fikayo Tomori, and Strahinja Pavlovic coming in for the available players in the back four – Filippo Teracciano will replace Theo at left-back.

In midfield, Fonseca will not make any changes to the duo that has served him so well so often: Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders will start once again. A decision that certainly brings into question the level of rotation, given the midfielders have rarely been offered a break

Ahead of them, Fonseca changes again, Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic will be rested, with Samuel Chukwueze and Ruben Loftus-Cheek replacing them. However, the head coach is yet to decide on the left wing – Rafael Leao could be rested for Noah Okafor, but a decision is yet to be made.

Tammy Abraham is expected to lead the line, but with Francesco Camarda set to be named on the bench, the starlet will be hoping for some minutes.

Probable Milan XI vs. Sassuolo (4-2-3-1): Sportiello; Calabria, Tomori, Pavlovic, Terracciano; Fofana, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Leao/Okafor; Abraham

  1. Rotation is needed, but for sure there must be few players from our classic starting 11. Against Sassuolo this, can be enough. And in 60-70 min he can substitute Leao, Raijnders and Fofana for next match

  2. He lost so many points in seriea that in very soon half of the matches in league is played, he can’t allow to lose any more points.
Napoli and now Atalanta are two teams which who almost took one of 4 positions Inter is always there, and Milan must fight for every point against Juventus. You can be ready to expect that Juventus will do everything even unregulated stuff to gain points.
Fonseca must forget coppa and rest all our best players before Atalanta.

    1. I am not the coach, but if I were the coach, I would do everything possible to win the Italian Cup. Realistically, we are out of the scudetto race.

  3. The three players who definitely need rest are Fofano Reijners, and Pulisic. And three of them are playing? Play Gambia with Thiaw again, they need to build chemistry and neither should have heavy legs.

  4. Fofana, Deers, Theo and Puli are the most used players in the team. And of those only Puli and Deers have some sort of cover in an adequate sense. Would like to see some of these guys get some rest (depending on what our objectives are) but that’s what we get for bad squad construction.
On the objectives side of things, realistically this is our only possible trophy to win so might as well try to go for it and use the big players. But our start to the campaign is so bad we can’t afford to even try for this competition as we need players fresh for Atalanta as we really need the points and we need UCL money. So once more it’s probably a fck it to Copa
