MN: Probable Milan XI to face Lazio – Tomori back and Kessie drops deeper

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will be looking to make another Coppa Italia semi-final appearance by beating Lazio on Wednesday night at San Siro, and some team news is beginning to emerge.

According to MilanNews, head coach Stefano Pioli should opt for Mike Maignan in goal after his derby heroics on Saturday night against Inter, with a back four protecting him comprising of Alessandro Florenzi, Fikayo Tomori, Alessio Romagnoli and Theo Hernandez from right to left.

It is expected that Franck Kessie will keep his place in the line-up but will drop back into the double pivot to form a pairing with Sandro Tonali in front of the defence. Then in attack it should be Junior Messias, Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao behind the centre-forward Olivier Giroud, who was the hero against Inter with his match-winning brace.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Tomori, Romagnoli, Theo; Tonali, Kessie; Messias, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Giroud.

    1. Exactly. I’ll even play Bakayoko ahead of him in this game. I think Leão should be on the bench for this one. Saelemaekers can start on the left if Rebic is not available yet. Serie A is more important and it’s important to rotate the squad. You don’t want someone like Leão to suffer a burn out. Let Saelemaekers use the game to get back.

    2. Kessie is available so there’s no reason for Pioli not to used him just because the guy have problem with renewing his contract.

  1. We need Giroud on serie A , why not play lazetic in this coppa. Match versus Sampdoria more important than this coppa. Why not resting tonali, leao, romagnoli . And play that crap Bakayoko replace tonali, rebic replace leao, gabbia replace romagnoli

    1. and then get eliminated from the cup and then blame Pioli for our misfortunes. Let’s not go past ourselves. The target for the club is champions league qualification and we are not the most well equipped team in the top 4. Juve and Inter have strengthened and with a full squad, it won’t be easy to challenge them. A complete Milan can fight without injuries as well but we know that’s wishful thinking
