GdS: Rabiot expected to play with derby risk – Allegri’s plan to minimise worry

There is a chance that Adrien Rabiot misses the Derby della Madonnina next weekend, and AC Milan cannot afford that.

It is quite simple, Milan struggle with Rabiot in the team, and Massimiliano Allegri is all too aware of that. In fact, when he is available, he plays, it is that simple for the Italian, and it seems this weekend will be no different.

Rabiot keeps his spot

Rabiot, as Gazzetta dello Sport wrote this morning, is not clear for the derby, and another yellow card would see him miss what may be the biggest game left of the season. So, the game against Cremonese, as we thought, would have been an easy chance to keep him safe.

However, this will not be the case. Instead, Allegri will once again rely on the Frenchman in midfield. He will not do without him, and he is willing to take the risk of him missing the derby.

His belief is rather simple, at 30-years-old, the midfielder has the maturity and knowledge to work around the situation. Though he will still demand maximum attention in everything, from tackles to his general behaviour.

If he were to protect him for the Inter game, he may not be as sharp, and this is a worry for the Italian. So, in his view, the reward outweighs the risk.

  1. Based on the questionable serie a reffing this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rabiot ends up with a yellow card vs Cremonese through a dubious or soft challenge or even through him “talking back” to the ref

  2. If the aim is to get maximum points against Cremon then play him. We can’t guarantee anything against Inter even at full strength. Hedge your bet where you have some degree of success and play the Inter game for pride. Nothing to proof there with the situation what it is.

    1. It’s funny but looking at the season stats. we might struggle more vs Cremonesse than Vs Inter. So, if he’s fit; play him. lol

  3. LOL. I’d bet 1000 he gets a yellow. At least it doesn’t really matter anymore, as the scudetto race is closed.

  4. This is one of the things with Italian Coaches and teams, they are too sentimental, you cannot control emotion or what happens in the team, Jashari could be used, and Ricci will also play, this club has made similar mistakes, even last season with Fofana, and the previous season with Pioli, I have forgotten the player, but we lost him to a second yellow, the team manager and the club need to act as professionals…

  5. I thought the plan was for Rabiot to pick up a yellow against Parma and miss Cremonese… At this rate, I wouldn’t play him.
