Player Ratings: AC Milan 2-0 Lazio – Hernandez steps up; Krunic pivotal

AC Milan clinched all three points against Lazio this afternoon with ease and thus boosted their chances of finishing in the top four. Several players did really well and down below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Starting XI

Maignan (6): Lazio had a whopping zero shots on target so the goalkeeper was barely called into action. His passing was quick and solid as always.

Calabria (6): He was carded towards the end of the first half and was subbed off at the interval. But he did well to contain Zaccagni this afternoon.

Kjaer (7): A rock at the back and he made several crucial interceptions/blocks this afternoon. Then again, Lazio had major struggles up front this game and didn’t test Milan that much.

Tomori (7): Calm when in possession, bar maybe one or two times, and he used his pace (as always) to gain an advantage over his opponents.

Hernandez (7.5 – MOTM): It was a solid game overall from him, but that solo run and that strike sealed the three points for Milan. If Leao were to miss out on the first leg against Inter, then the Frenchman will be the key.

Krunic (7.5): He has really grown into this role and today he played it to perfection. Covering space when Lazio went forward, making blocks and sacrificing himself for the greater good of the defence. And today he was also really good on the ball, hence the rating.

Tonali (6.5): He ran a lot out there today and helped Milan keep the high press throughout most of the game. It’s clear that he really likes that aspect of the game, happy to sacrifice some time on the ball for defensive duties.

Messias (6.5): A refreshing display from the Brazilian, as he almost always made the right decision and was an asset for Milan out there today. He did particularly well in getting past his opponent and driving forward with the ball.

Bennacer (7.5): Absolutely instrumental in Milan’s press play and it paid off when he scored the first goal of the game. As with Krunic and the tandem, the Algerian is really thriving in this position.

Leao (N/A): He was subbed off after just 11 minutes due to a groin injury and one can only hope that it’s nothing serious.

Giroud (6.5): He got the assist for the first goal thanks to really good pressing but other than that t was a pretty average game from him. Still, it was an important assist.

Substitutes

Saelemaekers (6.5): He did really well on the left flank and above all allowed Hernandez to roam forward more often. That’s one aspect Pioli can take advantage of if Leao can’t make it on Wednesday. Plus, Saelemaekers has been in good form himself lately.

Kalulu (6): He did what was needed off the bench and not much more. Solid.

Thiaw (6): A strong performance from him in defence, but he missed a pretty good chance on a corner.

Rebic (6): He had a ball in the back of the net but he was just offside. Calm finish, though.

Ballo-Toure (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating.
