Player Ratings: Dinamo Zagreb 0-4 AC Milan – Gabbia shines; midfield duo crucial

AC Milan secured another big win as they beat Dinamo Zagreb by four goals to nil away from home. There were quite a few stand-out performances and down below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Starting XI

Tatarusanu (6.5): He didn’t have that much to do this game but when called upon, he stopped the balls. He also did well with his feet today, so a decent performance for him between the sticks. (Note: rating amended to reflect description).

Kalulu (6.5): Tireless on the right flank with excellent decision-making out there tonight. He knew when to push forward and drop off, which was useful for Milan’s balance.

Kjaer (6.5): A leader in the defence, of course, and he was a calm influence as well. Stopped the strikers with ease and also showed off his passing a few times.

Gabbia (7.5 – MOTM): He bagged his first goal for the club with a nice diving header and he was flawless in defence. Always followed his man closely and won the duels as well, which was nice to see.

Hernandez (6.5): A few runs made life difficult for the home side but we didn’t really see that much of it this evening. A good performance nonetheless in defence and in attack.

Bennacer (7.5): When Milan struggled a bit at the start, he was the one making sure the ball was won back and that it was kept in the team afterwards. It’s easy to forget sometimes but he was so important out there tonight, doing the dirty work.

Tonali (7.5): Wonderful delivery on the set pieces (not just the goal) and he was very useful on the right flank. Won the penalty after he made the run into the box and – as alluded to – got the assist for Gabbia.

Rebic (6): Certainly not his finest performance with a lot of rocky moves but he improved a little as the game went on. It was a nice backheel for Tonali before the penalty, but to get a higher rating more composure would’ve been needed.

De Ketelaere (5): He continued to struggle out there tonight, getting carded and failing to make the right decisions. He still needs time, evidently.

Leao (7): Created the second goal all by himself and also ‘assisted’ the own-goal after a nice run. He looked a little lacklustre in the first half but when needed, he turns up.

Giroud (6.5): It was a nice penalty (unsavable) but he struggled to find the back of the net other than that. Many chances, some better than others, but his efforts were always too straight at the keeper. He was a bit unlucky too, it must be said.

Substitutes

Krunic (5.5): He was a good resource but missed an absolute sitter as he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Ballo-Toure (6): Solid in defence and a few runs in attack, not much else.

Pobega (6): Strong as always and got a goal, though it was ruled out for offside.

Messias (6): He tried quite a lot and had a few nice moves, but nothing spectacular.

Origi (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating but he looked good again.
