GdS: Real Madrid make forward available for €20m – the three reasons Milan are keen

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan believe that Marco Asensio would be the ideal profile for them and they are looking to push ahead with negotiations, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that Asensio is not only liked by head coach Stefano Pioli, but also by directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, and there are three reasons for this above all.

Firstly, the management are certain that signing someone like the Spaniard would significantly increase the quality of the Rossoneri’s attack and it would also bring another player who has experience winning on the biggest stages.

Secondly, the versatility that Asensio possesses makes him almost perfect for Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 given that he can play either as a right winger cutting inside onto his left foot or as a playmaker behind the centre-forward.

Finally there is the feasibility of the deal. Asensio only has a one-year contract with Real Madrid and they do not seem willing to offer him a renewal so he has begun to look around, and Milan could be a very welcome destination.

There is no real negotiation yet because other names are being evaluated such as Charles De Ketelaere, Hakim Ziyech, Nicolo Zaniolo and Paulo Dybala, while Los Blancos want to collect at least €20m from Asensio’s sale.

The player meanwhile wants €5m net per season to sign but the relations between Milan, Real Madrid and Asensio’s agent Jorge Mendes are excellent and could facilitate everything.

  1. I’d take him over Ziyech any day. He has played 2 good seasons, Ziyech played 2 awful seasons and had major injury issues.

  2. No doubt about it. At this price it’s a no brainer to go for Asensio. Younger, more talented, even more proven.
Ziyech would be perfect for loan (with option only). His playing style is very compatible to Milan’s game plan so he would be very helpful immediately (if he stays fit) but he is not a player to invest.

  3. This is a no brainer, but the salary demands will probably be a major obstacle. He will probably move to England, Bayern og Psg.

  4. Would 100% choose him over Ziyech, younger, higher work rate…

But no way is he asking for €5m, he’ll be able to make at least 50% more than that in England, if not more

  5. Asensio plays in the right or the left, lately in the right, usually; Asensio as a playmaker is science fiction.

    1. Actually he’s best as a 10 but Real don’t play with a CAM. The only game he started in that position this year, he scored a hattrick against Mallorca.

  6. None of them coming to milan. We would probably get de le feu but that is also doubtful. So dont get your hopes up too much guys.

  7. To sign him will be a big gesture from new Milan
Player that can be an important figure for like 3 next years
We should definitely go for him
He will get 5M salary, he also loves the city

  8. I think we actually have a decent chance of landing Asensio. With him having only the 1 year left on his contract, Madrid are willing to part ways with him for not such a big transfer fee (we might even be able to negotiate them down to $15M?) and I’m hopeful we can get an agreement with him in that $5.5M-$6M range. We should be willing to pay more than the $5M Milan have previously stated and Asensio should be willing to take less than the $7M he’s previously stated because I believe he will want to be a star/key player on a Champions League team like Milan (rather than be on a team like Madrid where he doesn’t get the minutes he desires).

  9. We can take both Ziyech and Asensio on loan.

Asensio could be loan with an obligation since it’s his last year while we can negotiate to pay the fee in installments over a few years.

Ziyech can be a dry loan with option to buy. If it works for us, we can just buy him next season like Tomori.

We can also add Dybala for free if a reasonable wage is negotiated.

Meanwhile, we spend the existing budget to land CDK and/or Luiz if we can.

For CB we can just renew Romagnoli.

That would be a good mercato with much less cost.
