Cadena COPE: Real Madrid forward told he can leave – Milan and Liverpool make offers

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Liverpool have both put forward contract offers to Marco Asensio who has been told to find new accommodation, a report claims.

According to Cadena COPE in Spain, Real Madrid have decided not to make any renewal offer to Asensio – whose contract expires in June 2023 – leaving him to evaluate the current proposals he has from Milan and Liverpool.

Although Kylian Mbappé’s non-arrival seemed to give Asensio hope of recovering his place in the squad, Los Blancos have told the playmaker that they are not going to offer him an extension and that they are looking to sell him this summer.

The former Mallorca star has made it clear that his desire is and has always been to play regular minutes, and given the competition for places at Real he has decided to listen to offers, with Mialn and Liverpool so far coming forward.

There is no mention of a transfer fee or even which destination he might prefer, but there are at least two obvious frontrunners at present in the race for Asensio.

  1. If what Asensio wants is more minutes, I would argue the competition in the positions he can play is even harder in Liverpool than in Real Madrid, so….

    1. Exactly. If he’s telling the truth, and we can offer him close to what Liverpool do, then with being in the CL, and our history, we should have a good chance of getting him. The problem is, Liverpool will offer more than us, and more than what he is on now. Money talks.

  2. If Liverpool sell Salah to Real, they could ask for Asensio in part exchange. They’d easily meet his €7mn salary demands, and Asensio would fancy his chances of playing regularly.

So, our best chance is if Liverpool keep hold of Salah and Asensio doesn’t think he can still break into their first XI. With Milan he’d make less money but given WC2022 is only 6 months away, he’d be a starter for us which gives him a better chance of selection by Luis Enrique.

Let’s see… BTW Maldini still hasn’t renewed and until then we ain’t doing jack sh!t in the mercato.
