Real Madrid are reportedly ready to make a third attempt to try and attract Massimiliano Allegri to join them as their head coach.
According to Corriere dello Sport, there is ‘no two without three’. Real Madrid are evaluating whether to make a third attempt this summer to get Allegri through the door, the manager currently at Milan and tied to a contract until June 2027.

The Spanish club have always held the Livorno-born coach in high regard, and have come close to hiring him twice in the past. President Florentino Pérez – having made the wrong choices with Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa – wants an experienced and charismatic coach.
Allegri could be the right fit, as could Jürgen Klopp, another target who has been on the Madrid president’s wish list for years. However, the German is the co-ordinator of football activities for the Red Bull group and is not currently considering leaving.
Third time’s a charm?
At the end of the current season, Real Madrid could swoop for Allegri, as they did in 2019. At that time, Max had just concluded a winning run with Juventus, including five consecutive league titles and four consecutive Coppa Italia titles, but the deal fell through.
The second time, Real Madrid came much closer. It was 2021, and Allegri also reached an agreement on his salary and contract terms: three years at €8.5m net per season. A meeting with president Andrea Agnelli changed Allegri’s mind just days before signing with Los Blancos.
Allegri has never coached abroad in his career, so that could be enticing. However, the paper adds that Max is enjoying himself at Milan and is happy to be back after 11 years. Allegri loves the city, the atmosphere, and is very comfortable with the team. The daily work at Milanello is rewarding.
He recently stated that he could embark on a long second era with the Rossoneri, and he typically tends to stay with the same club for several years. However, at the end of the year, a review of his work with the club will be made, with Allegri aiming to improve the squad to be even better.
The coach’s goal is to add key players, making the most of the return to the Champions League to improve the team with some quality signings. That could be enough to resist the allure of Europe’s biggest club.
They can have him for 50M€. And by that I obviously mean we’d pay them to have him. We’ve drawn & lost already enough against the relegation battle teams. No trophies coming with his tactics.

I see fans fixating on this 8th to 2nd a lot to big-up how good Allegri has been. But I see last season as an abberation – the last 5 seasons we’ve been 2nd, 1st, 4th, 2nd, then 8th.
Fonseca and Conceicao were just really bad fits for the team (Musah cost us so many games too) but no-one can tell me Allegri has raised the level of the team in general. He’s not half as good as Pioli who wasn’t perfect himself.

I agree with you that last season was an anomaly, not the standard, but the fact is we are second, so it’s puzzling that anyone would say Allegri is doing a bad job. He isn’t perfect and we are very hard to watch sometimes, but the ship absolutely needed steadying and he’s done that. The board couldn’t afford another risk-hire not paying off so they played safe. That’s why I believe Madrid are genuinely sniffing around – the are in the same boat.
On Pioli, in an ideal world he’d still be our manager. But football is fickle these day and he admitted himself that he sensed he’d lost the dressing room. It shouldn’t be the way but it is.

I just have big concerns with Allegri “big picture”. We know he favours older players and a lets say..outdated style of football. I feel that if he’s here for a number of years he could really damage the trajectory of the club. He’ll want players that have little to no resale value if we have to rebuild after him and I feel we could get really embarrased in the CL next season playing as we do now.
And then there’s Leao and Pulisic..I can’t pinpoint why but Allegri’s training seems to be detrimental to forwards, they’ve dropped like flies in both his spells here. And Pato kept playing even when he wasn’t fully fit and we know his career was never the same after that. I’m legit terrified of the same thing happening to Leao.

Tie Allegri’s arms behind his back with the limitations of this roster that Furlani placed on him, then criticize his results despite clear improvement from last season, because it doesn’t pass the eye test.
