SM: Rebic temptation and position dilemmas – latest team news ahead of Cagliari-Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s trip to face Cagliari is fast approaching and head coach Stefano Pioli is thinking about changes compared to the team that started against Empoli.

Milan will make the trip to Sardinia looking to keep hold of first place in the table and for the match in Sardinia, Pioli would be considering some changes compared to the game last Saturday, we have learned from SempreMilan.it.

Theo returns

The first news concerns the return to the left-back position for Theo Hernandez, who served a suspension against Empoli, while on the right side there is a battle between Alessandro Florenzi and Davide Calabria with the latter currently favourite.

At centre-back, Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori should keep their spots as the Frenchman seems to have usurped Alessio Romagnoli in the hierarchies.

Midfield doubt

Pioli is thinking of bringing Brahim Diaz back into the starting line-up and then he could field Franck Kessié in place of either Sandro Tonali or Ismael Bennacer as both need a rest, or the Ivorian could be benched.

Rebic temptation

In attack the trident seen on the pitch with Empoli should be kept but the next training sessions could provide some news about the centre-forward role with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic vying to get the nod over Olivier Giroud.

  1. START REBIC ON RW PLEASE! Messias has been garbage for a long time now and while Saele works hard to try to defend, his quality lets him down in the final third constantly. Rebic needs to get minutes to get back into top form and so bringing him on in the 82nd minute every match to fill in for Leao isn’t getting that done. And I don’t want to take Leao off the pitch at all. PLEASE at least let Rebic play the first 45 minutes at RW — he can play the position; he did it for Croatia in the World Cup run to the finals because Perisic was on the left. We can’t do any worse than we have been at the RW position for weeks now… give it a try please!
