CM: Milan ‘very advanced’ in talks over Renato Sanches deal which could see formation change

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are already working on putting the squad in place for next season and they could make a signing for the midfield that forces a formation change, a report claims.

According to what Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com reported on his Instagram (via Twitter), Milan are ‘very advanced’ in the negotiations for both centre-back Sven Botman and midfielder Renato Sanches and the feeling is that a Mike Maignan-style operation can be concluded for both.

The current thinking is to close the deal in either March or April and fully define it in May, with Milan moving ahead of time to beat the competition too, and his information is that Sanches is the closest to being a done deal.

The idea of Pioli and the club could be a formation change to a 4-3-3 with Sanches from next year, while at Milan they are convinced by the idea of signing either Botman (far advanced) or Bremer from Torino.

  1. A formation change which should happen right now so that Kessie, Bennacer and Tonali can all play at the same time. Then next year Pobega can also play in his preferred mezzala position.

  2. With Kajer/Tomori – Botman in the back, Milan can play 4-3-3. This formation is suitable for the return of Pobega and the presence of Adli and Sanches. Milan midfield next season will be Bennacer/Pobega – Tonali/Bakayoko – Sanches/Adli.
