Report: Both Milan clubs still keen on Modric – why Inter have the edge

By Oliver Fisher -

Inter are ‘poised’ to beat AC Milan to the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric next summer, a report claims.

A number of different sources reported that the Rossoneri made an attempt to sign Modric over the summer, with director Zvonomir Boban apparently keen to bring his friend and compatriot to San Siro.

SportMediaset (via Calciomercato.com) even went big by claiming that Rossoneri were preparing a contract offer for the Croatia international, with Real having set an asking price of €20m.

Despite this, the current Ballon d’Or holder remain at Real Madrid, though Calciomercato.it did state last month that Milan may make a new attempt.

However, according to Calciomercatonews.com, it appears that the 34-year-old has also entered the crosshairs of city rivals Inter once again.

They claim that the idea of a move to Milan for Modric – the club he supported growing up – is moving further away due to the revelation of the recent budget.

The particular concern is regarding player salaries which went up by a substantial amount from 2017-18, and Modric at Real Madrid receives about €10.5million-a-year.

That would easily supersede the Rossoneri’s top earner Gianluigi Donnarumma, who gets €6m-a-year.
