Report: Milan cast their eyes upon record-breaking Leverkusen playmaker – Inter also keen

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter are both keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz, according to a report.

Milan’s owners have so far preferred a recruitment strategy centered around buying young players with high potential to develop and record capital gains on the balance sheet.

Six players arrived in summer 2019 with the oldest being 25, and while some experience was the introduced in the winter, this summer has seen a return to the status quo.

Sandro Tonali (20), Brahim Diaz (21) and Jens Petter Hauge (20) all joined, as did Diogo Dalot (21), while Ciprian Tatarusanu is over 30 but he is the back-up goalkeeper.

According to Calciomercatonews.com, Milan have set their sights upon 17-year-old Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, who has a goal and an assist in four competitive outings so far this season and is rated very highly by the Bundesliga club.

On 6 June 2020, Wirtz scored his first goal for Leverkusen in a loss against Bayern Munich but in doing so he became the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history at the age of 17 years and 34 days.

The German U21 international is seen as a purchase in line with the club’s vision, but they do face competition from Inter who are looking to stock up on young talent.
