Report: The two reasons AC Milan will struggle to sign Barcelona midfielder

AC Milan face a ‘difficult’ mission if they are to convince midfielder Ivan Rakitic to join in January, according to the latest reports.

Our mercato expert Vito Angele recently revealed that the Rossoneri’s owners Elliott Management are willing to invest in experienced players in the winter window, with the team languishing in 14th place in the standings having lost seven games out of 12 to begin the season.

One of the players who has been heavily linked is Barcelona’s Rakitic, a midfielder who is struggling for game time under Ernesto Valverde.

Calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo reported last month that the Croatian is compatriot Zvonomir Boban’s ‘dream signing’ for the January transfer window.

According to Tuesday’s edition of Tuttosport though – as cited by MilanNews.it – the idea of signing Rakitic is becoming ‘increasingly difficult’.

The newspaper lists two main reasons that the road is ‘uphill’, namely the player’s salary (which is out of budget at present) and for the type of transfer formula that would have to be agreed (Barcelona only want a loan).

Tuttosport also claimed earlier on Tuesday though that Arsenal duo Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are both potential targets for the upcoming mercato.
