Reports: Groningen scrambling for replacement as Milan show interest in 22-year-old

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in signing Groningen star Gabriel Gudmundsson as Theo Hernandez’s new deputy, according to a report.

Sky (via MilanLive) are reporting that the Rossoneri have identified the 22-year-old Swede as the ideal man to become the back-up to Theo Hernandez having lost Junior Firpo to Leeds. Scouts seem to have put great emphasis on his talent and his potential, and it is possible that a concrete move is made.

Gudmundsson started his career at Halmstad where he grew up in the youth sector and then 2019 he made the move to the Netherlands to join Groningen. Last season he collected 23 appearances and 5 assists, and he is a fixture of the Swedish youth national teams up until the U21 stage.

According to David Vukovic meanwhile, there is a confirmed interest from Groningen in Yahya Kalley because they want to sell Gudmundsson before possibly going for Kalley or any other replacement.
