Reports: Milan to send board members to Portugal as Taremi operation heats up

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are ready to send board members to Portugal to try and get the deal for Mehdi Taremi over the line before the window closes, reports claim.

According to a report from Matteo Moretto of Relevo, Taremi wants to leave Porto and go to Milan, and he has already told the club several times about his desire to start a new challenge in Italy.

Last night there was another ‘very significant meeting’ between Porto and those who represent Taremi. The player is reiterating his wish and pushes for an exit now, rather than next summer when he can leave for free.

In the next few hours, a part of the Milan board plans to travel to Porto to try to unlock the transfer, meaning these are ‘key hours’.

According to O Jogo (via Portistas), tonight could be Taremi’s game for Porto as they take to the field against Rio Ave. Milan’s interest is concrete, and they are expected to present an offer, though Porto want €30m to sell.

Another factor to consider is that Porto actually only own 85% of Taremi’s rights, with the striker keeping the remaining 15%.

  1. Lets get him. Having an experienced (old) and effective striker has been a good model over the years and data shows it should continue. You could go for say Balgoun, but he would probably score equal or likely less than Giroud for several, several multiples of that cost.

      1. We like Ibra because apart from being an amazing player he is also sincere. And that’s a rare quality.
They don’t make them like Ibra anymore

  2. His age is a good thing, look at Luca Toni, Di Natale, Klose etc etc, lots of strikers either are late bloomers or learn how to adapt with age.

in Taremi’s case he’s been banging it in in a decent league and has champions league experience, no brainer deal.

  3. Milan would not send board members for a players that cost 30mil with one year left. They will try to reach a deal of 15 mil at most.
Or else we will try again in january with an even lower offer.

  4. I have my doubts about this guy, but I also don’t know much about him. Is he worth it? Is he someone that will guarantee us at least 20 goals a season? The way we’re playing if we had a player similar to osimhens traits, they’d be scoring 25 goals in the league. Also if we do get him nothing over 18m please

    1. Last season Taremi had 31 goals and 14 assists in 51 games for Porto. This is almost one goal contribution per game. He is a superb finisher. People might say that the Portuguese league is not as good as Serie A but someone who scores 31 times is guaranteed to be a good finisher regardless of the opposition he plays against. Also, he has Champions League experience. This would be a very good signing and I hope it gets done.

  5. What bothers me with him is that he is old and we already have an old Giroud in our team. IF Taremi comes, he and Giroud will be too old to play in 2 years time, so in 2 years we will have 0 strikers. Lets focus on a younger striker that plays along Giroud for now and gets the needed experience for the future.

    1. The problem is management didn’t prioritize signing for striker at that time thus losing Retegui dan Veliz for cheaper price
