Reports: Milan miss out as PSG and Lille agree €15m deal for Renato Sanches

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan should finally be able to move on from Renato Sanches soon as multiple sources are claiming that Paris Saint-Germain now have an agreement with Lille.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on signing Renato Sanches as negotiations with Lille are set to be completed. The transfer will be around €15m, and personal terms have already agreed with the Portuguese midfielder set to sign a long-term contract.

Romano adds that there are still some final details to be agreed but PSG feel that Sanches is ‘finally close’ to moving to the capital where he will reunite with Christophe Galtier (his head coach when Lille won the title in 2020-21) and Luis Campos (who was their sporting director).

As reported by L’Equipe (via MilanNews), Lille and PSG reached an agreement shortly after 22:30 last night for the transfer of Renato Sanches on the basis of a €15m fee. Now, Milan will have to turn to alternative targets.

  1. Milan missed on Renato Sanches because of the timing of the club sale and Maldini and Massara contract negotiations. Milan stalled and allowed PSG to enter the race after they hire both ex Lille sporting director and ex coach.
Big miss for Milan . 15 mil for a 24 year old player with great talent IF he stays healthy.
    On to the next one

    1. You’re wrong @coco, milan was never renato’s first choice, how on earth would you think that he would choose milan over psg, the perks and the salary is better there. if he wanted to compete which he evidently didn’t, he would have chosen milan. There’s nothing M&M could have done to alter the situation.

      1. I think you should read again what I said. Psg wasn’t in the picture until they hired ex Lille sporting director, which happened in June. Milan has been after Renato since January. If Milan had the ownership and M&M contact sorted out on time Renato would be a Milan player now

    2. Well said @Coco. But I don’t blame M&M as much as I blame ownership for giving them a small budget to work from. That being said, we should have at least matched PSG salary offer of 4.5M to tempt him to come and should have made that offer aggressively straight away and not wait months with a low ball at 3.2M As I have also said it is extremely difficult to find a 24 yr old player in his prime – starting mid w CL experience and resale value for 15M….huge opportunity wasted. Let’s see who’s available now

  2. He is injured to often and with De ketleare and Adli we dont need an offensive midfilder which he is more than an defensive one. Sense Pioli insist on the double pivot we need an player with a more defensive style.

  3. What a surprise! exactly the same story as CDK and Leeds, except that, in this story, we’re … Leeds 🙂

    What a waste of time!

I was unfortunately right in saying over and over: move on.

    At least, now it’s clear.

  4. Great comments guys! Some of them very true and some hilarious! 👍😂
Agree with you all: he would be here if he really wanted and yes, seems that Pioli needs a DM/CM more than injury prone money lover AM/CM.
What about loaning with option to buy Frattesi or Ricci? Do you thing it would be possible+useful?

  5. Perhaps we dodged a bullet here. We’ve already got Adli & CDK so where would have Sanches played? Also Bennacer would have had a reason to leave if Sanches were to be played deeper.

Perhaps Benny will now sign the new contract too.

  6. Fabrizio romano confirmed. Finally news AC Milan linked with him stopped. From the beginning he only want PSG .We can train tonali – bennacer as double pivot starter

  7. That is for better. If a player doesn’t want to play for AC Milan, then we shouldn’t even talk to him.
The glory of AC Milan lets it to have an army of young admirers such as Tonali, who has been dreaming to become a rossoneri. We should focus on them first instead of feeding mercenaries and their greedy agents.
