Repubblica: Simons, Olmo, Samardzic – Milan take note of Euro 2024 trend

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s decision to pursue Lazar Samardzic follows a trend that surfaced during the most recent European Championship, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanNews) has a section titled: ‘Olmo, Simons and the lesson of the European Championship. Now everyone wants a 10’. More specifically, they are referring to how natural attacking midfielders shone during the tournament in Germany.

The Spaniard from Leipzig and the Dutchman from PSG are the prized pieces for sale but obviously not for Italian clubs given that they have very high asking prices. In the meantime, though a movement seems to have started.

Thiago Motta is waiting for Teun Koopmeiners at Juventus, Lazio are set to sign Gaetano Castrovilli and are following Jobe Bellingham – who is Jude’s younger brother – while Roma are pursuing Soule and Milan are moving for Samardzic.

The use of a prototypical creative midfielder in an advanced role is something that seemed to have been on the decline in recent seasons, but a major tournament in which they so often played an important role could change perceptions.

More specifically regarding Samardzic, Udinese are asking for €22.5m in order to part with the Serbian and the parties are at work to find a meeting point for the 22-year-old.

Maybe in Italy, but it had not been in decline in the other top leagues, and especially among top teams.

    1. Olmo?, we already try to sign him few years ago when nobody know’s him. And it was failed. And today is almost zero chance to get him cause he’ll be priced above 70M

      1. Yes you are indeed correct on that point. Years ago, Milan pursued him but to no avail. Which begs the question, if it didn’t work then, what makes people think today will be any different?

        NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN

    1. Ofcourse we have d.maldini but milan never trusts there own products.we always look outside to other teams young players hence stunting the growth of our youth players

    2. Keeping D. MALDINI but loaning him out is better. I wish we could have maybe been a bit patient with Hauge of all people!
