CM: ‘Ricci in the summer’ – Milan’s midfield targets in the meantime

In the upcoming mercato’s AC Milan will look to make some additions to their midfield, and they have road-mapped their plans.

As we approach November, mercato plans become more visible, and this is the case with Milan. Of course, there are areas which will be focused on, and these are quite easy to spot – for example, left-back and midfield – it is the latter where the Rossoneri are looking at currently.

In the January mercato, there are three clear targets, as Calciomercato.com reports. Carney Chukwuemeka is a ‘favourite’ of Geoffrey Moncada, and if a non-EU spot were to become free, the Diavolo could act with a loan-to-buy deal.

Alternatively, Johnny Cardoso and Luca Gourna-Douath are being watched eagerly. The Betis midfielder has been ‘considered for some time’ and whilst a January purchase would be difficult, it would not be impossible. It seems a move for the Frenchman is not as favoured, with him only being followed at present.

Then, in the summer, Milan will make a move for Samuele Ricci. A January move is near impossible, as the Rossoneri found with the deal for Alessandro Buongiorno this year. Urbano Cairo only intends to sell him in the summer, so that is when the Diavolo will join the race.

  1. “and if a non-EU spot were to become free, the Diavolo could act with a loan-to-buy deal.”

To my knowledge then there was a change in the ruleset so teams only has a max of acquiring 2 non-eu players pr. season regardless if they sell any. Pretty sure it was implemented this season or the previous one.

We have gotten 2 players in Pavlovic and Abraham but not sure whether the last one counts as he was brought in from another Serie A team but in the case that he doesn’t count then to my understanding then Milan would only have to remove a foreign player and not a non-eu player.

    1. Emerson Royal has Spanish passport, we only used one on Pavlovic this summer.

We need to sell RLC, Bennacer and maybe Calabria
2 CM/CDMs, plus ST will fix the current issues until the summer.

      1. I didn’t mention Royal as I’m aware that he has a dual passport but you are right that Tammy doesn’t count either because I do actually recall now that English players doesn’t count as non-eu players either. In the end end though the quote from the article doesn’t really make much sense.

I have no issues with us selling RLC and Bennacer but personally I would like us to keep Calabria.
Yeah lets get Ricci and Frendrup or maybe Bernabe. Well I’m not against us getting a new striker but then I would actually also expect some kind of statement signing compared that we come up with some makeshift solution.

        1. To add to the confusion: I am under the impression that UK (and Swiss) footballers (i.e. footballers that are UK nationals) are considered the equivalent of EU nationals for the purposes of these non-EU limits by the FIGC. Therefore, Abraham does not count. Therefore, we technically have 1 non-EU spot open right now.

          1. Yep. To be fair I think EPL should be forced to accept that all eu players should count as foreigners and vice versa. Lets see how competitive that league would be.
Anyways the snippet I quoted really doesn’t make much sense,

  2. Exploring partnerships (buying, selling players, etc) overseas, in countries like Spain, the UK, and France, might offer more stability and opportunity.

  3. Adli was paramount yesterday for Fiorentina, with one assist and many good plays. He’s having a good season so far. De Ketelaere as well. Kalulu as well. Saelemaekers as well. Thuram, Retegui, Di Lorenzo as well. So many stupid decisions from the management and they’re still not learning…

    1. Saelemaekers is hardly having a good season considering he has played 3 matches over roughly 200 minutes and been injured for the last month.

        1. 😀
To be fair he hasn’t contributed with either assists or goals but he might still have played well in the minutes he has been featured.

    2. I get your point, but nuance is needed too. Adli is playing in a 5 man midfield, where he gets to play in between two more defensive midfielders, thus his inability to defend is not as noticeable. He does not fit in two a double pivot system. CDK is playing as an AM in a 3-4-2-1 system. We rarely played him as the AM, if I remember correctly. We mostly used him as a 9 or at RW. Clearly SS or AM are his strongest suit. And he also doesn’t really defend, so again you need a 3 CB system where you’ve got more men in midfield to carry him (and Lookman). Kalulu? Did you watch the Inter-Juventus game? He was terrible.

But don’t get me wrong. I agree with your main point, which is that it’s time to get rid of Moncada and Furlani.

      1. I think Furlani is fine with the business side and the growth of the “brand”. The issue being that he’s asked by the ownership to keep the club sustainable. Don’t spend too much, especially long term, because in football the revenues, hence the value of the club can drop significantly after bad results. European football is very competitive and such a policy can’t bring major achievements such as trophies and dominance.

There is a video named “Shahid Khan Wants to Marry the NFL and EPL” on Bloomberg that is very interesting and, I think, is very relatable with what Jerry considers as his long term vision. Develop the business side, grow a lifestyle brand, build a stadium that is also a busy area 7/7 and the sporting results don’t matter as long as the value of the club is growing. Which is obviously the very ambition of Redbird as an investment funds.

      2. I agree with almost everything here except about Kalulu. He did fluff his lines once and was a serious fluff but he did come in the clutch quite a few times. Plus at 4-4 that sort of scoreline tells u more about the lack of proper defence all around.
However if say Kalulu seems to suit Juve more than he does us with our current setup/coach.

    3. Did u see Adli got pressed hard near his defence before he sent the ball for the goal? That was pretty impressive..seems he went to the gym and got stronger (a peeve of mine when he was here). Not my fav player when he was with us but it also didn’t help that he was paired or played incorrectly. For the life of me I never understood why he couldn’t have partnered with a more defensive mid in the pivot. Would seem like a no brainer. At Fiorentina he seemed like he has protectors around him so it’s perfect for him to be able to spray passes smh.

Also while were on Fiore, Palladino is looking a decent coach. Him and Motta are my fav new coaches (both we could have punted on). Add in Fabregas as the best newbie, doing wonders with a poor squad. I’m sure other clubs are looking

  4. Moncada and his hoarding team don’t have a clue how to build a team, they’re just hoarding bunch of could bees on a discount in hope to elevate their value and sell on a profit. And so we have bunch of mezz’alas running around headlessly acting like pivots.

This useless recruitment policy went from low risk high reward strategy to 200 millions waste with no significant results to show sport wise. But hey as long as New Era caps and 150 EUR OffWhite keyrings are selling, who cares about trophies.

    1. “they’re just hoarding bunch of could bees on a discount in hope to elevate their value and sell on a profit.”
Unfortunately I think u hit the nail on the head there Ted. I didn’t want to say as much but this is certainly what it feels like. From last year, selling Tonali and buying all these 15-20m players was disguised by thinking they were building a team. They weren’t. It was clear that they were and still are really just looking for opportunities. Look at our strikers, both are opportunities. Sometimes I wonder if even the coach’s requests (if any) are taken into consideration
