CM: Roma furious as Zaniolo refuses Bournemouth but Milan move remains unlikely

By Oliver Fisher -

Nicolo Zaniolo has rejected Bournemouth and seems almost certain to not change his mind between now and the end of the month, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, Bournemouth executives met Zaniolo’s entourage a little while ago to try to get the green light from the winger after having reached an agreement with Roma over a transfer fee, but they were unsuccessful.

They put a contract worth over €4m net per season on the table and the possibility of inserting a release clause in the event of relegation to the Championship, given that they are currently in the bottom three of the Premier League.

However, Zaniolo was adamant that he does not want to move too far away from his family and certainly not to a club that does not hold much prestige. The attempts of convincing him from Bournemouth and even from Roma fell on deaf ears and their owner Dan Friedkin is very angry.

He made it known that Zaniolo risks being sidelined until June as a result of playing hardball, while the chances of success on other fronts are few as Milan can’t afford to sign him outright, plus Tottenham and Arsenal have never seriously thought about it.

  1. He has the right to choose the best destination for himself, Roma should just find a way to get Milan to commit to the deal …

    1. Lol after all the tings club did for him he tanks them like this? Roma gave him a chance to play for the first team while he had no experience in Serie A and Champions League and he did well at first but after injuries he is a totally different player but he thinks he is still as valuable as he once was… Nobody is gonna give him a contract he wans in last 2 seasons so far in league he scored 3 goals that is terrible return from a guy who is so highly rated

    1. Its a tool i can understand used when the squad has enough depth and players holds clubs for fools but trying to force zaniolo to sign for bournemouth is downright preposterous,
Its also a well known fact that zaniolo wants to stay in italy and it has been known for years.
Only way he would be temted was if a big club cames asking and im not talking about the likes of tottenham or arsenal.

    2. And then what get nothing out of them until they leave for free? Zaniolo is their player for 18 more months. You alienate him enough I’m sure he’d be happy to be paid to do nothing but train and heal and sign on a free to a league rival on a free in the summer of 2024. For Milan’s sake I hope Roma continue to alienate him and keep his ass on the bench.

  2. Hope the management is seeing this, cus when Leao refuses to go on a transfer and decides to run down his contract nobody should cry wolf, the signs have been there.

  3. i SAID IT
Milan is playing the well, either Roma risk having a problem for the next 5-6 months and then get nothing for him – or they lower their demands and Milan go for it.

    1. Ok great but it’s just insulting to offer 18…. we should do 25 and I’m sure it would get done. There’s only so much penny pinching douchery one can handle and we are way beyond that…. we do it with every player which is why we don’t end up with any of our links even if they are a fair price we try to nickel and dime further and further until we miss out…

      1. He’s not worth more than 20. Milan made a fair offer. Either Roma can take it or leave it. The closer to 30 the deal gets the worse the deal becomes. Zaniolo is better than anything Milan has on the right wing but there are better players available for 25-30.

  4. I hope this is teaching some fans how the market works. If we want to sell a player but the player refuses to go then there’s nothing you can do about it. A lot of people keep blaming Maldini for players who left for free saying he should have sold them when they had a few years left on their contracts while ignoring the fact that players can reject transfers, there may be no buyers, or the club may feel that there’s still hope in getting the player to renew his contract. Its not as easy as just saying, “sell him if he won’t renew.” It’s not fair to ignore other factors that could lead to a player not renewing and leaving for free. I bet some fans also wanted us to seel Bennacer seeing as the contract talks were taking too long but the truth is that sometimes the players end up signing and sometimes they don’t. Stop making it sound like Maldini decided to let players walk for free. Just look at Bakayoko and how his transfer to Turkey turned out. I bet that is Maldini’s fault too.

    1. Well said. However in a few of those cases some of those players were never put on the market – like Kessie and Donnaruma. We refused to sell them because M&M believed they would resign even as their deals were winding down. Now who knows what their agents were telling him but some mistakes were made. So I agree with you it’s is not ALL M&M fault – but some accountability is needed to be able to recognize of a player does not sign 12 months before the end of his deal – then you should try to sell. I also don’t think it’s fair to blame M&M for all our current woes when they have to work on a limited budget year after year. IF M&M we’re given the budget they needed to sign the players they initially wanted – we prob wouldn’t be in this mess. Yes there were some misses this summer BUT that is what happens when you initially go after the players u really want – Botman and Sanches – then have to pivot cause you Ownership tells you you don’t have the $ to get them and you have to nickle and dime them long enough for another team with money comes and swoops them up – you settle for younger unproven players. Something they workout straight away and sometimes they take a year (Tonali) or more to acclimate. Well this year it’s the latter. Now ownership CAN remedy this by giving M&M a reasonable budget in January – but looks like they won’t and rather risk losing a top 4 finish than providing an additional 20M or so in funds – even though OF we miss out on CL – we will lose much more than 20M. Fantastic 🤪

      1. What part of “if the player doesn’t agree to be sold” do you not understand? They all want to run down their contracts as that will bring them the most money from whomever they end up signing with. Tell the team you are with that you will resign, then keep holding out for more until you are a free agent. If there is no transfer fee it can go into the player and their agents’ pockets.

        1. how does other clubs sell players? Milan is literally not even in the top 5 of sale revenue

stop trying to justify this crap

    2. I mean, Maldini signed Bakayoko, didn’t he?
Yeah, who else people are going to blame for Bakayoko, but Maldini .
And Bakayoko wants to leave, he just doesn’t want to leave to get paid less than he is getting paid now. If any club interested is willing to match his 2.5 mil salary he would leave right away.
He already had to sign 1 year extension with Chelsea to facilitate the loan move to Milan on a much lower salary than what he was getting at the time at 4 mil. Now he makes 2.5 mil. Why would he do it again so he can move to Turkey ?
Milan signed him and refused to play him. Why would he leave, go to a weaker league, and make less money? He doesn’t owe Milan anything, he was the one poorly treated and never given a chance since the get go.
We are all Milan fans, but you can’t always take the club side when they are obviously wrong.
I don’t blame Bakayoko at all.
You made me stay on the bench for a year and a half, imma sit there for another 6 months and collect my money

      1. You yourself said he earns 2.5, Adana offered 3 so what’s your point? As for Milan treating him unfairly, I can agree with that to some extent although I do feel Pioli isn’t using him properly. The point I was trying to make is that there are some things about transfers amd contract renewals that are beyond Maldini so it’s unfair to blame him completely the way some fans do.

        1. That was a false report. The deal collapsed because Adana offered less than 2 mil.
None of us will accept to get their salary cut down. Sometimes you gotta put yourself in the players’ shoes, not just blindly defend the club.
Fans like to call players greedy, ungrateful, and not loyal when they want to leave or ask for more money, but when the club treats players badly, they are OK with it.
Look at the Castillejo case. He was a Milan childhood fan. He might not have been a great player, but he always gave 100%. The club froze him out, and fans were insulting him because he wouldn’t leave to another club for lesser salary.
How about the way the club treated Bonaventura. He wasn’t even offered an extension at 30. At age 33 I’d still rather have him play the 10 than any of our current players.
Abate had to retire at 33 because Milan wouldn’t offer him a new contract.
Milan shipped Cutrone to a totally different country, and IMO ruined his career, even though he didn’t want to leave and is a Milan fan.
Bakayoko was so happy to come back to Milan that like is said even cut his salary and was never even given a real chance.

          1. If that was a false report then I can’t disagree with you that Milan hasn’t always treated their players fairly but I feel like the main reason why Baka doesn’t play is that Milan don’t want to trigger the obligatory clause in the contract not because he’s that terrible. Truth be told, every and any hand is needed seeing as we’re not performing too well.

          2. @20&8 1.5 over 4 years is worth more than 2.5 over one year…
Also well established that he’s not playing because of the obligation to buy clause. Not a great deal but even Galliani made bad deals, let me give you a quick list: Rivaldo, Javi Moreno, Bakaye Tarore, Louis Adriano and Christian Vieri. Those deals were very bad and sent Milan into the dark ages and still Galliani is remembered as the greatest director in Milan history.

          3. @Nelli Bakayoko contract that pays him 2.5 mil expires in 2024. And, he can still get that 1.5m per year from most interested clubs in 2024 when he is a free agent.
Also , you say Rivaldo, Javi Moreno, vieri , bakayo traore, Luis Adriano.
I say Bakayoko, Florenzi, Ballo Toure, Messias, Dest, Tatarusanu and Mirante, Mandzukic, Leo Duarte, and maybeb is too soon to speak but Adli, Origi and CDK. That’s all just in 2 years

          4. milan like all of serie a are a joke im afraid, all they do is destroy, nothing more nothing less, this is what happens to a league when young talent are totally binned off, its pathetic beyond belief, italian fans need to start a revolt against this dross

  5. What do they expect from a promising player – go to Bournemouth for what? He future lies somewhere big, even if Milan don’t get him, regardless of his injuries.
