Romano: Defender wanted Milan return before Chelsea move as Blues make intentions clear over his future

By Oliver Fisher -

Thiago Silva wanted to rejoin AC Milan a year ago before eventually making the move to join Chelsea, according to a report.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest for Calciomercato.com, the Brazilian defender would have liked a return to Milan in the summer of 2020 when Paris Saint-Germain decided that they were not going to make an effort to keep him after eight years of service. His bond with the Rossoneri has always been strong, and Thiago would have gladly returned but Milan made other choices based on his age (now 36) and the salary investment it would have taken.

A return to Italy is an idea that never materialised and that situation is unlikely to change next summer. Thiago still has a few months on his contract, but Chelsea have a clause in their favour for his renewal and intends to extend the agreement with the Brazilian, also appreciated by Thomas Tuchel. The idea is to move forward together, Chelsea have decided, but the final choice will be Thiago Silva and his family. Milan, in all likelihood, will remain a beautiful memory.
