Romano: Man City still interested in Milan midfielder but Monchengladbach star is No.1 target

By Oliver Fisher -

Manchester City are interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer if they do not land their first choice target, it is claimed.

City are among the teams who have been repeatedly linked with a move for Bennacer since the summer transfer window, with the Algeria international starting to develop into one of the top midfielder’s in Europe during Milan’s recent run of form.

According to what Fabrizio Romano has told his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, Fernandinho could leave City at the end of the season and it is not clear if he will be offered an extension at the moment, with a move to the MLS or back to his home country Brazil possible.

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria is among several names on Pep Guardiola’s wish list to replace Fernandinho, and Romano adds that the Swiss midfielder is more of a concrete target at the moment than Bennacer.

However, you can infer from that that Bennacer is indeed a player City are monitoring as they look for a long-term option to replace one of their best recent servants.
