Romano reveals Milan’s centre-back ‘priority’ amid links with Arsenal man

By Oliver Fisher -

Fabrizio Romano has given an update on AC Milan’s centre-back pursuit amid the recent links with a potential January move for Jakub Kiwior of Arsenal.

The long-term injuries to Marco Pellegrino and Pierre Kalulu have left Milan light on depth in the centre-back and Stefano Pioli confirmed in his pre-Udinese press conference that the plan is to sign a new defender when the window reopens.

Now, Romano has provided an update on things given the numerous reports linking the Rossoneri with a move for Kiwior, who joined Arsenal in January but was touted as a Milan target while he was at Spezia.

He is struggling to get regular playing time in Mikel Arteta’s side and thus there have been suggestions that the Gunners could open to the idea of a loan move in some capacity.

According to Romano in his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing on CaughtOffside, Milan were not the Italian team who had an interest in Kiwior during the summer and they have another priority at present.

“Jakub Kiwior – As I recently reported, there was interest from an Italian club in Jakub Kiwior during the summer, but Arsenal said no,” Romano said.

“There are now links with AC Milan, but I can confirm they are not the Italian club I was mentioning – they weren’t looking for signings in that position in the summer.

“They are now looking for cover there due to injuries, though, but the priority is Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth.”
