Tuttosport: San Siro becomes ‘icy and grey cathedral’ amid evident fan detachment

While AC Milan might have the best attendance in Serie A, but playing at home has been far from comforting in recent weeks.

As Tuttosport (via MilanPress) writes this morning, all of the declarations about sold-out games and getting over 70,000 fans through the gates are not enough to make an image different from the reality.

Instead of being a fortress, San Siro has become ‘an icy and grey cathedral, increasingly cold and disenchanted’. The paper underlines the now evident detachment between the Rossoneri fans and the club that they support.

When Germano Lanzoni – known as ‘Gegio’, the San Siro announcer – read the teams out the fans used to shout players’ surnames back at him. Now they no longer do, and this is both due to the fact many are under-performing, but also a large presence of foreign fans who perhaps aren’t used to it.

In the last nine league games, Milan’s average is 1.1 points per game, a trajectory that if repeated over a whole season would have them in a relegation battle. The disaffection arises from this, but also from the increasingly minimal approval towards the management.

The chants against Gerry Cardinale and Paolo Scaroni are now a consistent soundtrack at the San Siro, as is the discontent towards Giorgio Furlani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who are not facing the media as much as supporters expect.

      1. Might going too much for Leao it might be Gimenez or Luka

Chuky and Leao plays SS wingers

RLC to Gabbia in no advantages in result at 60 mins but tajts current options

        1. I guess each to their own but I doubt it would be a road forward as we would basically play with 5 or 6 defenders and in my view one of our big problems this season is that we doesn’t play proactive enough wasting time playing backwards slowing down our momentum and I can only imagine that we would do that even more with such a defensive approach but obviously I might be wrong,

  1. The money ball approach adopted to buy players and couple with the fact that our technical director in the persons of Moncada and special advisor Zlatan had played too much playstation which manifest in the sorts of players they bought…all speedy and strong but no technique and acculturation to the league peculiarity…had made Cardinale an co look like idiots with their choices….Maldini must be laughing so hard now..

  2. Desert completely the stadium in our next matches till the end of season even you have full season subscription. Give Cardinale a true hardcore signal with full supporters strike. Completely empty stadium will be the strongest signal we can send to Cardinale.
