The international break never seems to bring good news for AC Milan, and there is once again an air of doubt surrounding the team at present.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) write this morning, it has been a start to the season that has definitely not lived up to expectations for Milan. There are five teams within two points of each other at the top of the Serie A table, and yet the Rossoneri are on the outside looking in.
Perhaps with a bit more consistency – which is achieved through organisation and attentiveness – Milan could have cut out some of the errors that led to bed results. The defensive department are under fire after 20 goals conceded in 15 games (all competitions) – too high to challenge for anything.
Instead of being able to build from launching points such as the derby, what has arisen is situations like in the last few days. A 3-1 win against the European champions Real Madrid at the Bernabeu was followed by a 3-3 draw at struggling Cagliari, perfectly summarising the rollercoaster trend.
Now, Rafael Leao and co. are being forced to chase not just the top spots in Serie A but even the Champions League places, which at this rate risk even moving away without any possibility of being able to recover.
Tuttosport state that Milan are on the ‘precipice’ when it comes to the top four battle, referring to the fact that fourth place is seven points away. It would become four if the Diavolo were to win the game in hand away at Bologna, but that is far from guaranteed.
The gap is worrying but at the moment the gap to top 4 isn’t much different to the gap to the top. If we were able to win the game in hand then we’d be 5 points off the top.
It’s very close and we’ve not been good enough yet, but only needs a few results to quickly change things as it currently stands.
Napoli and Inter are nailed on. Lazio I think will fade and I have to believe we’ve got more about us than Fio. Then it’s a very tough three way fight between us, Atalanta (who look fantastic so far), and Juve.
If we stop pi55ing about with the formation and roles, settle into a clearly superior 433, and sign a proper DM in January, we’ll probably be ok.
If he can’t win Juventus, he will definitely loose spot for Champions league next year.
This year maximum he can won in champions league is quarter final – and only if Fonseca is big luck.
For him Juventus game is must win.
Its not all lost and there is plenty of time to make up for what was lost. I mean we should give the manager time to instill his tactics etc, but his time is running out (I’d give him till end of Jan to prove his worth). It all started with poor decisions from our management. From hiring Fonseca (while we had a list of top-class managers to choose from) to bringing in players “with potential”. The only good purchase is Fofana.
The manager is a mid-table team manager by far. Also, we need to get rid of dead weight. RLC for example (who has always been a sub in my eyes) needs to leave. Hell, I would even go to the extent of attempting to exchange RLC and Tomori for Tonali if possible. Purchase a proper leading CB, an AM and a proper striker. For years now, all this team has been waiting for is 3-4 quality signing and all we have been getting are subs.
Ummmn that train has already left the station
