Paulo Fonseca, Head Coach of AC Milan

GdS: ‘Zero goals, lots of jeers’ – Scudetto hopes fade as Milan fail big game test

The jeers when the full-time whistle painted the picture as AC Milan dropped more points last night, drawing 0-0 against Juventus at San Siro.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes this morning, it was close to a must-win game for Milan, and despite this they did not test Davide Di Gregorio until injury time in the second half.

It means that the team failed the challenge, and the boos that accompanied Milan into the dressing room at the final whistle confirm the verdict.

Yesterday’s match could have been the turning point for Milan, but for the second time this season – after the 2-0 home loss to Napoli – Paulo Fonseca’s team failed to secure a key victory.

Three points would have re-established the Rossoneri as title candidates and yet the draw means that they are nine points off top, which could be 10 if Napoli were to win at home against Roma this afternoon.

The game in hand against Bologna might not be enough to believe in a sensational comeback, given that the group of teams at the top are beginning to pull away.

After the questionable performance in Cagliari, Fonseca’s team were asked to be more cautious in their defence against Juventus, an objective achieved if we consider the clean sheet and lack of big chances for the Bianconeri.

However, in doing so it seemed that Milan forgot how to attack, creating practically nothing except for a header from Theo in the 94th minute that was easily saved by Di Gregorio.

Aside from that there was nothing: Rafael Leao was unable to continue his excellent form, Alvaro Morata was barely seen in the penalty area and there was a general lack of creative spark.

  1. The issues started at team selection.
There was no ambition to the chosen line-up.
Musah as RW when Chuk was on the bench. We had no midfield in reserve on the bench with Fofana, Rjeinders, RLC and Musah on the field.
Meanwhile Okafor, Tammy and Camarda were not used at all.
And Chuk got a late 9 mins.

Pulisic only came on at 70 mins (as a single sub) but seemed to play Midfield / LW
And Musah remained on the RW. working hard but for little end product when going forward.

I don’t like to join in all the hate on Emerson but he really is average.

    1. As a start formation I can sorta accept the XI if it was meant to tire the opposition who already had a depleted squad to begin with but then more attacking changes certainly should have been made at half time or at the very minimum 55th minute. Overall hugely disappointing performance all over from players to the coach and in my opinion everyone involved should take an extra look at themselves in the mirror as there simply is no excuses for such a lackluster approach.
Even though I don’t think that the season isn’t completely over this inconsistency simply can’t continue and drastical changes has to be made but if Fonseca is sacked then the management should man up and take responsibility and leave with him as well.

  2. “Booo….” The fan jeer.

Unwatchable display. Lackluster performance. Just one shot on goal at the end of match. ‘Booo….. “
