Criticism is coming in bucket loads for Paulo Fonseca, and it is difficult to see any positives in the Portuguese coach currently. AC Milan have started the season abysmally and there is no confidence from the fans in his abilities to change the squad’s fortunes.
Before the international break, questions were being asked of the Portuguese coach and his ability to lead a squad like Milan’s. Then coming back to a 4-0 victory against Venezia puts a pause on these questions. However, whether that was a dominant Diavolo or a poor Venezia side meant no being carried away.
The big tests have always been the two games against Liverpool and Inter, and Fonseca failed the first one. A 3-1 loss – where the Rossoneri took the lead – paints a very bad picture, and the Portuguese coach’s future is under fire.
Reports suggest the management are already looking at replacements, and today, Luca Serafini commented on Fonseca’s Milan when speaking to TMW (via Milan News).
“In a situation like this, everyone is under scrutiny. Already after the first three league games it is normal for the company, the coach, Ibra’s position and so on to be discussed. A foreigner must have a gradual approach when he is in an environment he does not yet know.
“Elliott did this, he took Maldini and Massara, leaving it to them and then observing the numbers. This management has been invasive and revolutionary, which thinks it will do without important figures such as that of the Sporting Director.
“Now the knots come to the comb. Complicated to understand what Fonseca’s idea of football is. However, part of it is the responsibility of the team. Those who were on the bench showed more hunger than the starters. Now either you have a clear change of course in the results or the change on the bench seems inevitable to me.”
