Sky: Conti sustains cruciate ligament injury

Andrea Conti has suffered a cruciate ligament injury, after previously missing out on Milan’s victorious Europa League opener against Austria Wien due to an ankle distortion.

The right-back was expected to be fit for the Serie A game against Udinese on Sunday, after being sidelined due to an ankle sprain he received in his debut for the Italian national team during the international break.

However, during a training session earlier today, Conti suffered a cruciate ligament injury, which could see the defender out of the squad for up to four months. The defender will undergo further medical tests to understand how serious his injury is.

Conti, one of the fresh faces at Milan after the club’s record-breaking spending spree, came to the San Siro from Atalanta for a fee of €25 million. He has played five matches thus far into the campaign, averaging 66 minutes on the pitch. It is thought that Milan stalwart Ignazio Abate and youngster Davide Calabria will feature in Conti’s absence.
