Sky journalist claims Fonseca is treating Milan-Monza ‘as if it were a real match’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Paulo Fonseca will treat tonight’s friendly against Monza as a dry run before Saturday’s Serie A opener against Torino, according to Peppe Di Stefano.

Milan returned from the United States last week where they played three games in the 2024 Soccer Champions Tour against European heavyweights Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona, winning all three games.

Tonight they will face Monza and bring down the curtain on preseason with a game that of course honours president Silvio Berlusconi, who was the most successful President in Milan’s 125-year history, with 29 trophies win in 31 years.

Milan won the inaugural trophy last year on penalties, and this time around it will be a first appearance at San Siro for Paulo Fonseca. Two other well-known faces are back, namely Adriano Galliani who remains Monza’s CEO and Alessandro Nesta who is their new coach.

Di Stefano gave an update live from Sky on what is already a very eventful day for Milan given that Emerson Royal had his press conference and Pierre Kalulu’s move to Juventus seems to be at a very advanced stage.

“Today is as if it were a real match. In addition to being the trophy dedicated to Silvio Berlusconi, it is a day that precedes by only four days the pre-Torino retreat, a match that we will report here on Sky and which will be Milan’s league debut. The team arrived here at midday. Pierre Kalulu is also here,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

“Then it’s not news, because he’s still a Milan player. He’s taking every moment to reflect and understand what the best solution is: both on a technical-tactical level and, I think, on an economic level. He had lunch with the team. If he isn’t called up, it would clearly be a big clue about his transfer to Turin.”
