Sky Germany: Roma forward ‘open’ to new challenge – talks with Milan ‘ongoing’

By Oliver Fisher -

Another source has claimed that AC Milan are in talks over the potential signing of Tammy Abraham from Roma, and this time the news comes from Germany.

Numerous sources are claiming that Alvaro Morata will arrive in Madrid for a medical on Wednesday before going on holiday and he will then be announced as a new Milan player.

The Spaniard will earn €55m net per year over a four-year contract, with the option of a fifth season. Due to his release clause, the Diavolo will pay a €13m fee to bring him to the club, but he might not be the only centre-forward to arrive.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany confirms the news that they broke two weeks ago during their ‘Transfer Update’ show in which they stated that Abraham is high on Milan’s list of attacking targets.

The 26-year-old English striker has been left with ‘many options’ this summer, but the ‘first concrete’ talks were with Milan and they are ‘ongoing’.

He has a with AS Roma valid until 2026 and is ‘open’ to the idea of a new challenge after a season that was almost entirely wiped out due to a knee ligament injury he suffered just over a year ago.

  1. I like this move a lot.

Morata is 31 – all rounder
    Abe’s 26 – all rounder
    Jovic 26 – poacher
    Ok4 – poacher, 9.5
    Kamarda 17 – exceptional ceiling

By the time Abe’s is 31 Kamarda has seen it done in many ways, formed his style of play in competition we a high quality group of ST etc.

In the mean time Milan has two consistent quality starters in the position and two who provide quality off the bench per their first season.

This looks quite strategically sound to me.

    1. But we’ll have one spot and 5 players competing there. That’s just a waste imo. How is that time going to be allocated properly?

      1. It’s a good question and I think the answer lies in removing Jovic (unfortunately)

Now Morata starts most games in Serie A and UCL with a plan for.him to come out at 60 min most games.

Kamarda starts (yep) early Copa rounds. Subs when we have games in hand in lieu of Abe’s.

Ok4 is emergency when. Injuries, fatigue and minutes management become a thing around international duty, UCL and Copa. His primary role is deputy to Leao.

So really it’s 3 players for one spot and a plan to get Kamarda good minutes in appropriate situations.

Cutting Jovic is a bummer, but that’s a tough choice that needs to be made.

My assumption is that Fonseca wants the same profile at the 9 rather than a change-of-tactics player.

        1. Camarda won’t be playing this season. He will have enough minutes in Serie C and it would make zero sense to start pushing him to the Serie A prematurely.

  2. IMO Abraham is better option that Fullkrug.

As Morata arrives, he ticks the box of experienced striker, but not really a top one.

Jovic is good just for backup, kicked by Real and not wanted even by Fiorentina. Scored few goals but nothing special.

That gives space to Abraham who once was hot prospect but lost his touch. Still a good age, there is a chance he will rebuild and reach top. It’s a gamble that might give us top striker, and if he fails there is still solid Morata.

Fullkrug won’t improve and is not special. Good joker but Morata seems to already fill the same role.

  3. If he achieves fitness he can be a great asset.
We have to be realistic, we have many games next season. We have to be able to effectively rotate to prevent burn out. And he is not a bad striker. He also has good resale value if we need to sell him off

  4. “The Spaniard will earn €55m net per year over a four-year contract, with the option of a fifth season.”

    I seriously doubt that. 🙂
