Sky: Inter overtake Milan and win the race for Thuram with last-minute bid

By Oliver Fisher -

It looks like AC Milan have missed out on yet another transfer target as Marcus Thuram has chosen to join Inter, according to a report.

There were reports yesterday that Inter were trying to overtake Milan in the race for the Frenchman and now Sky are claiming that they have reached a verbal agreement with the player and his entourage.

The 25-year-old striker has given the go-ahead to join the Nerazzurri on a free transfer, given that he will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach when his deal runs out in a few days, where he has played for the last four seasons.

Inter have offered the French player a key role in their new project and a salary of €6-6.5m net a year, thanks also to the facilitations of the Growth Decree tax relief scheme.

It seems therefore that Inter have overcome the competition from Milan, who were waiting for an answer from Thuram before the strong attempt from their city rivals, which came yesterday morning.

    1. Probably Morata. Then we’ll change to 4-4-2 and use Origi & Morata as the strikers so they can score 3 goals combined all season (UCL included).

  1. Cardinale Moncada Furlani vs Marotta

    So funny.

Thuram had agreement in January with Inter. Than he got injured. Ac milan media were pumping transfer negotiation with Thuram, and the player use Milan offer just to got bigger income from next club. Those were Psg or Inter. After Psg initially remove offer for Thuram Inter gave him 1 million more and Marotta showed Furlani Moncada Cardinale trio, how business work.

Milan is year by year becoming joke club, running by moneyball gambler Cardinale.

    1. “After Psg initially remove offer for Thuram Inter gave him 1 million more and Marotta showed Furlani Moncada Cardinale trio, how business work.”

Or maybe Milan said Thuram’s worth 5mil a season tops (which is still a lot imo) and weren’t prepared to spend any more than that.

  2. Anyone here watches Bundesliga?
It sucks to lose in anything to inter, even if it’s a coin flip, but how should we feel about Thuram?
Did we miss on a good one or we dodged a bullet?
Never seen the man play and his YouTube highlights is nothing to write home about especially not at that salary.

    1. In 2022/23 He has only scored, three goals, against sides in top four.. 2 against Bayern Munich and 1 against Borussia Dortmund! In fact only once has he scored, more than one goal! In a 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg..
Other than that, it has been one goal every four match or so.. And a hat-trick in DFB Pokal, against a fifth tier side!

    2. I think we dodge a bullet. 3 of his 16 goals last season was against 5th tier German club at DFB Pokal. He is not prolific, perhaps he will fit better at inter as they play with 2 forwards.

      1. Yeah, it is the thing that you don’t understand football obviously. He is about 6 times better than Giroud in what Milan needs. He won’t score 30 goals a season but he will have more assist than goals and will set up a bunch with his intelligence. But you’ll see at Inter. It is a bit pathetic to insult a guy because he picked a club that looks to better at the moment. What, Milan offered him a contract and put all the cards on him as the striker because he is bad?

          1. Well Kolo Muani is their striker if they aren’t playing against a low block team where a wooden pole in the box is necessary. That is Giroud. Be realistic, he wouldn’t warm the bench for most of his career if he was that good. And Mbappe will take the lead as the best scorer for France pretty soon. He will be 25, Giroud got there at 36.

          2. Anyhow, you saw at Inter how you deal with strikers of that age. You let them leave for free and you get a replacement that is 10+ years younger. You don’t increase their wages.
Real Madrid offers only 1 year contracts with reduced wages for players of that age, if they refuse they can leave, Milan is giving raises 😀

          3. I already said few weeks ago that Thuram is 3rd choice at NT behind Kolo Muani and Giroud. You have a problem with that? Talk to Deschamp.

          1. I’ve already said it yesterday before it was official, it makes more sense for him to join Inter. Same for Frattesi. Probably SMS as well.

  3. So the mercato is starting with a bang, eh? It’s 1-0 to Inter already. Frattesi will make it 2-0. Then Milan goes out and buys Morata and it’s 100-0 to Inter. And Juve buys SMS to make it even beter. Game over. At least Milan will get someone from Ligue 1. Or Belgium.

      1. I know either of them are and I never even suggested that.

Having no money and huge debts doesn’t seem to mind/stop Inter though. And they’ll be getting ~60M€ from ManU for Onana.

          1. They will sign SMS and Frattesi, and a replacement goalkeeper is already lined up. Mamardashvili or Musso will join them also.

        1. Who is giving them 60 mil for Chiesa? Maybe a Saudi club. They would be happy if they get half that in Europe. At his prime he wasn’t worth that, even less now after an ACL and looking bad this season

      2. I just don’t think they’re on our radar mate: this moneyball bo!!Icke just seems to Ely on searching the second tier leagues like the Dutch, Belgian and Austrian leagues…perhaps lower half bundesliga and Lihue 1 sides.

To soften the Tonali blow we should have been straight in for Frattesi and SMS

We are now a selling club. It’s naive to think Roma haven’t revive bids for Pellegrini, inter got massive bids for Skrinar, but they say no…it’s a mindset. Every player is Joe up for grabs at Milan. If anything I think Gerry is invoicing bids from the mega rich Prem clubs…he’s got a hard on for it now

  4. Thuram was never a great option in my opinion, it’s just we’ve learnt to lower our standards considerably. He may have worked out or he may not. For me the best deal was Scamacca with Origi going the other way…the thing with his was we could have got him for free which appeals to our pathetic moronic management.

The appeal of Thuram was that he was free. I also wonder how much of Thuram’s decision was recent events, the sale or Tonali, Maldini being axed, we are club in turmoil showing no ambition. Once again the lure of Maldini can’t be understated here.

I’d go for Icardi now, it of course it’s going to cost. We need GUARANTEED Serie A goals and we know he delivers.

This summer is going to get worse too…I think at least one of Mike, Theo or even Leao goes.

      1. Yes I think they will mate. Perhaps it’s my negative mindset but I truly believe sacking Maldini was the start of the fire sale. Gerry knew all the time Maldini was present he had more piper than him, and if he tried to sell the likes or Tonali, Theo, Mike and Leao, all it would take was Maldini to go see them to stop it, then of course when it hit the surface the fans have Maldini’s back 100% of the time…it was a power play by the moneyball moron. Leao is probably safe due to his re-signing and massive transfer fee, but I suspect next summer will be different. Theo is the one for me…with Theo, Cory would he unstoppable…it’s their only real weak position. If they offer 100m then Gerry will drop down like a prostitute

I just hope those magnificent Milan fans in Milan raise hell!! That moron will never come to Milan anyway but we can show what we think. I suspect the Fossa Dei Leoni are about to erupt, they’ve been quite calm so far…..

Gerry picked the wrong club..total stadium boycott is required.

    1. “I’d go for Icardi now, it of course it’s going to cost. We need GUARANTEED Serie A goals and we know he delivers. ”

I hate to say it… But I’m starting to think so too. I HATE Icardi. I despise everything about him. But we need a guaranteed scoring machine. I’d still prefer Arnautovic even if he’s older and worse. Even if he would make a worse transfer in every possible way. I still consider him to be a human being compared to Icardi the snake.

But having said that… We need reinforcements and Icardi would be just that. F*** this bs.

      1. I actually like Icardi, always have lol. But yeah you’re right, we can’t have anyMore CDK unknowns, pelters like Okafor, Jonathan David even Openda (not that we can afford him) are not guarantees. It would also be a bit of a f@ck you back at inter…

Most concerning to is our starting midfield for next season which as of now is Pobega and Krunic!! 2 year ago is was Kessie, Tonali and Bennacer

        Genuinely frightening

        1. “Most concerning to is our starting midfield for next season which as of now is Pobega and Krunic!! 2 year ago is was Kessie, Tonali and Bennacer ”

Who knows, maybe Pioli has evolved now that he has more power and he changes tactics to not include any midfielders. He might revolutionize the game by fielding 5 defenders, 2 trequartistas, 2 wingers and a striker. Problem solved. No need to buy a replacement for Tonali.

          1. I think you fell short when you Mentioned Pioli, tactics and evolved in the same sentence….he can do neither and is in my opinion the wrong man for the job and largely to blame. I still claim had Conte had this Milan since 2019 then we’d have won back to back scudetto a and probably given city a good go in the final

          2. 2 year ago was Krunic and Tonali at the start of the season. Kessie was at Olympic, I don’t remember what prevent Bennacer from starting.

        2. It is frightening. We were supposed to bolster CAM, ST, and RW with offloading Rebic, Origi, Fode, and more. But now we have another hole in midfield potentially another one in LB. Under Pioli we never had 1 player perform well in their first season. This is messed up. Thuram is a 50:50 but failed to reinforce attack and add another hole in the team is stupid enough

      2. I have to admit I begrudgingly like Icardi but I think the conclusion here is that we need a short term solution for this season, a veteran or someone on loan. Lukaku, Icardi, Scamacca, Dzeko, Arnautovic… Can plan for a long term solution for next summer.

  5. Here is how clown convince player to Milan project looks like.

Management : We will develop you under our scudetto coach Pioli, we will battling for top four finish, and do well in UCL. When an offer arrives later on, we might release you. You can consider it as a stepping stone if you like for your future career.

Player : So i have option to go to another big club like Milan such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munchen, etc?

Management : No, it depends on who will pay the transfer fee more. if nottingham forrest or norwich city in the future have more money to offer than those great club, then we will send you to a small club with highest bidder. Nothing personal, it’s just good business. FOR OUR POCKET

    Player : ………..

    1. The players won’t go to team they didn’t want to.

They hold the last call, the contract need to be signed first before they move club.

Hold your imagination for yourself. You think Tonali will be sold if he didn’t want it? Milan won’t be able to sell him if he didn’t sign the contract.

      1. Mate, everything we wrote here is pure imagination and speculation. We don’t really know what really happen inside and we don’t really know how it works.
Like people said Cardinale is doing bad thing for Milan is also speculation based on what happened so far. We have yet to see what happen next and the transfer window is still far from closed.
Also speculation that this is on Tonali who made this move happened, it is possible. But in other side, this move will never reach to Tonali if the club block any offers for their key players and wants to preserve what has been built so far, not to dismantle it solely for profit. Again, all we write fantasy/imagination/speculation or whatever you call it with addition of logics and facts

  6. I would not be a fan of unproven players coming in and immediately getting among the highest salary, higher than players who have been working their socks off for our students. Just for that I’m happy Inter win that race.

  7. Ok, let’s go and build that stadium now Mr Cardinale and leave the blue side of town to enjoy their short term gains. I’ve had enough of this mercato.

    1. I know – how we ever landed Donadoni, Rui Costa, Shevchenko, Pirlo, etc etc without Maldini is beyond me. I mean, how did we even get Maldini without Maldini?

  8. @Poli, where are you? I know we both do not really like the idea of signing Thuram but a day before yesterday you claimed that Furlani is already better than Maldini because he signed Thuram, didn’t you? Well, that doesn’t age well.

    1. Therein lies the lowering of standards. Thuram is a 1 in 3 bundesliga striker, that’s hardly top class when you consider the numbers Aubameyang, Haaland and Lewandovski were producing in that league. I get the impression he’s a decent forward player, as an out and out no9 I’m not convinced he would produce enough. However given our low expectations and that he would have been free, we were excited and talking him up. With a good CAM and RW I’m sure Giroud would have done just as well. Let’s not forget Giroud is a striker who relies on service, not like an R9 or Shevchenko or Weah who can just make things happen.

      1. Drew, you completely missed. GIroud is a striker that relies on service but is almost useless in build up play. He can’t direct a long ball towards a teammate if his life depends on it. Thuram is completely opposite, he will make that final pass and have 15+ assist easy. If you play with 2 fast wingers I think it’s better to have a technically good player that can direct the ball towards them and not Giroud. Giroud is average at best, read any analyisis of his play that isn’t on sempremilan, milannews and similar websites. Non fan websites. Literally no one ever said that he is good, the best he got is “good for his age”, which is the only good he can get.

        1. To be fiat mate I judge Giroud’s play in what I see. Not from other sources. I think Giroud is technically very good. Even Zlatan said grout makes the whole team better. He didn’t score a goal in the 2018 WC but his contribution was good.

Giroud shouldn’t be doing long passes, he should hold up, play it simply and then get into the danger zone where he can head, volley, finish. With two excellent wingers and a proper no10, Giroud would thrive. Just look at this last World Cup

    2. 😭😭😭
I was actually wondering about that but then again it’s not about Maldini so you won’t see him here

  9. It hurts to lose against Inter, but honestly I think we will all rejoice in a few months’ time. €5 mio /year for Thuram it would just have been throwing money at problems.

Given that Inter had an agreement with the player since December 2022, we have forced Inter to put more money on the table and de facto we have weakened them for the next deals (eg Frattesi)

  10. hey POLI the clown, where are you redbird licker?? look that, thanks to the charisma of furlani and pioli, thuram decides to choose iler merda LOL LOL..now which striker should we sign? mbappe? LOL

  11. ACM cannot raise offer to surpass IM offer. ACM offer 5m euro nett + 1m euro bonus , IM offer 6m euro nett + 500k euro bonus . If want to surpass that IM ACM must offer 5m euro nett + bonus 2m euro thats equal to leao salary. ACM lose with 500k euro difference offer, reminds me of lord hakan contract offer 500k difference too. Losing free transfer striker will make ACM must allocate budget for striker now , it wont cheap of course. Btw Marotta show his class sign onana last season free transfer now ready to sell him 50m euro to EPL club, this season sign marcus free transfer and perhaps rising his value until 1-2 season . If only we have marotta from elliot beginning take over

  12. Look at the comments, now he is bad. Hahahahahaha, you are pathetic attempts of human beings. You can’t talk bad about someone just because he rejected Milan.

He is a great striker that would have 15 goals and 15 assist per season playing with Leao and another good winger. He wouldn’t score 30 goals a season but his goal contribution would be around that. Inter hit a good signing on a free, Milan is going through the list of free players to try and get anyone.

  13. But but but he’s free. Right? That means automatically we can get him. Lol. What this point we should be really looking the Kamada deal 😂😂😂see if we’re still in the hunt there
