AC Milan host Lecce tomorrow night and a journalist has suggested there could be some changes made by Paulo Fonseca after the derby victory against Inter.
Winning the derby has offered the squad – and more importantly, Fonseca – a chance to restart the season. Forgetting the past will not be done easily, but beating rivals certainly reduces fears, especially when you dominate the game.
In less than a week, the Rossoneri went from looking disjointed against Liverpool to playing with purpose against the Nerazzurri – a characteristic of Fonseca’s side that had not been seen since pre-season.
It will mean nothing, though, if the Diavolo do not push on from here, and they must use the momentum of a victory like Sunday’s to properly restart the season.
According to Sky journalist Manuele Baiocchini, some changes are to be expected for Milan, and when speaking to Sky Sport24, he looked into which departments could be altered – his words have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.
“It is not a foregone conclusion to see Pulisic and Fofana, a certainty and a novelty that has started to work, on the pitch from the first minute against Lecce. Despite their excellent game against Inter, from what we understand Fonseca will change a little…
“2,3,4 players will change them because then there is Leverkusen next Tuesday. One change per department should do it: probably Pavlovic in defence for one between Gabbia and Tomori, and perhaps it could be the Gabbia-Pavlovic pair that takes the field.
“Loftus-Cheek and Musah should be inserted in midfield and there in front we will have to understand the position of Reijnders… if he will play the Morata of the derby or if he will play in front of the defence, a position in which he played in the first ones.”
If Reijnders comes in for Morata it would have to be like a 4-4-1-1 with the Dutchman behind Tammy, dropping back to collect the ball in build up.
