The captain of the club, one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and one of the key figures behind a Scudetto push. Maignan’s future has fallen in the worst season. At the end of this year, he will leave Milan unless a new deal is agreed.

In an ideal world, the Frenchman would have renewed in the summer of 2024. However, as we now sit in the last month of 2025, the list of mistakes is substantial. Had this season shown the Rossoneri were right to step back, the reaction would be different.
However, football is a fickle game, and unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you view it), he is having his best season since signing.

A renewal is not off the cards, it seems, with Igli Tare keeping the idea alive in a recent interview. However, he did not offer much encouragement. So, in the encapsulating mist of negativity, Peppe Di Stefano spoke to Talk, trying to offer some positivity, via MilanPress.
“I think there is some hope, but it’s my opinion. I know for sure that Allegri was decisive this summer. Maignan was on his way out and he wanted to leave Milan.
“Chelsea was the main issue; it was a question of numbers, then Allegri probably, knowing the environment and the management, did some calculations and dug in his heels: this guy is strong, why shouldn’t he stay?
“Milan won a Scudetto with Romagnoli’s contract expiring, they achieved a return to the Champions League with Donnarumma’s contract expiring, and ended up being decisive too.”

IMO, we just need to leave an offer on the table and move on, source a replacement and assume he’s moving on. We’re not outbidding the biggest clubs and this is a mistake of our own making by not signing on the line a year ago.
Instead of the constant speculation, let’s just make the most of what we’ve got whilst he’s here and let him focus on earning that next big contract with whoever.
I think Mike is gone next summer. Tare is just huffing and puffing when he says they are working on it. Mike has been here a long time and is probably ready for a change of scenery. It’s not unheard of.
Tare would be wise to sit down with Moncada and find a decent replacement. Heard Vicario is available.
