Sky journalist: “What is certain is that Milan will buy a central defender” – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are ‘certain’ to buy another centre-back before the window shuts on October 5, according to Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano.

The Rossoneri will begin their 2020-21 campaign the same way they ended 2019-20: threadbare in the central defensive department because of the injuries sustained by Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Musacchio.

While both are expected to return next month, it has left head coach Stefano Pioli with very little cover in what is a crowded schedule to begin the season, with the opening three league games alongside three Europa League qualifiers, presuming they win each.

Di Stefano spoke to Sky (via MilanNews) about Milan’s willingness to buy a reinforcement in defence.

“What is certain is that Milan will buy a central defender. The forced stop due to injuries to Romagnoli and Musacchio continues,” he said.

“At the moment Milan are obliged to play with Kjaer and Gabbia. Maybe if the Europa League groups are secured or if they pass the next round, Milan will move to strengthen the department.”

A number of names continue to be linked with Milan including Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, Saint-Etienne’s Wesley Fofana and Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer.
