It has been a frustrating recent period for Simon Kjaer as he has spent over a month out due to muscle issues, though a return seems to be getting closer.

The Danish central defender has been unavailable for 37 days to be precise, which obviously could increase if he actually doesn’t get called up against Atalanta. He has struggled to shake off muscle discomfort which has prevented him from dialling up the intensity in training.
Kjaer sustained the problem on 29 October, the morning of the departure for Naples for the away match which ended in a 2-2 draw. The problem had been identified as muscle strain, but in the following weeks it was realised that the problem was more serious and it left him with an irritation problem.
According to the latest from Sky, Kjaer returned to training with the rest of the squad today and for him there is a better chance of being on the bench against Atalanta on Sunday compared to Rafael Leao.
