Sky journalist lifts lid on Pavlovic, Fofana and Milan’s player-first strategy

By Oliver Fisher -

Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has confirmed that the road to sign Youssouf Fofana is now ‘uphill’ but suggested that Strahinja Pavlovic could be a done deal very soon.

Impatience is beginning to grow among sections of the Milan fanbase because they have been told that the club are close to various different targets and yet Alvaro Morata is still the only signing through the door.

Time continues to tick by and Milan will leave for their tour of the United States with only one of their internationals (Luka Jovic) and no new additions, given that Morata will only report for training on August 10.

Thus, there is pressure on the directors as we approach the end of July to get business done and give Paulo Fonseca the pieces he needs to give him the best chance of having a successful first season.

Di Stefano gave an update on Sky in which he touched upon the departure for the tour of the United States and the targets that have been linked with Milan. MilanNews relayed his comments.

“Tomorrow the team will leave for the United States and all the directors will be present, with negotiations that will continue anyway,” he said.

“As we said in the last few days, the Rossoneri first speak with the players’ agents and when they manage to get the yes they also try to reach an agreement with the club, it’s a method that is used by many teams, not just Milan.

“There were some difficulties for Fofana, it’s an uphill battle because there’s a lot of competition for the Frenchman, a different story for Pavlovic. The Serbian is the strong name for the Rossoneri defense and the Serbian has also chosen Milan, preferring him to other teams, the negotiation is well underway and could be closed in a few hours.

“As for Emerson Royal, Milan have Calabria and Florenzi on the right, both of whom are almost out of contract, so the Brazilian full-back could be an opportunity. What is certain, living in this environment a lot, is that Milan – after losing Kessiè, Krunic and Tonali – want to take a midfielder with certain defensive characteristics.”

  1. everyday the same sh… We will loose out on Fofana like all other targets through the last 5-6 months we wanted….

  2. If Monaco is asking for 35m. I dont think for a second Manu or Atletico will pay that. Russian owner is angry fofana is not staying. In 6 months we can negotiate a free transfer with him. We should look at samuel Ricci from Torino. Young italian midfielder. Include pobega returning to Torino to sweeten the deal.

    1. Makes complete sense, but I’m confused how there are so many crazies in football, or do we just bring that out in them?

    2. If you are looking for fans with self interest, look no further we have them here as Milan fans, in 2021 season both Pobega and Ricci where on loan at Torino under a very good coach Ivan Juric, Pobefa was able to bench Ricci, playing 33 games and 4 goals nd 2 assist, Ricci was able to play 12 games half as sub, Torino was willing to pay €15m for Pobega but we insisted on having him back, so now Ricci is better than Pobega to you hypocrites, am not taking anything away from Ricci but you set of fans are the ones that will wiggle there silly tongues at Ricci at the first difficulties he as, Playing for Milan ain’t Torino it weight very very different, Ricci is just a very normal below average player and he is not better than Pobega, when he Pobega gets constant playing time Ricci cat bench him, but silly fans like everything that is not in Milan and always the first to complain when they have it.

  3. Why Emerson Flop when Kayode is available? This Anti Italian Milan have to stop.
Where is the secret MR X that Zlatan promised?
Where is the 150 million budget that many people talked about?
Cardinale is a fraud that wants to milk out as much money as possible from Milan.
A great owner would know Milans greatness was the mix of great Italian Players with Foreign and a Mix with Older experience players with younger players.
This Management is a joke that don’t know shiit.
Sell Thiaw Tomori Calabria Pobega Adli Origi Ballo toure Saelmakers.
Buy Calafiori Scalvini Kayode Casadei Tonali.
This gonna be the future of Italian national team.
This put more time on sponsor deals then transfer market to strengthen the team.
This Management have taken the Soul of our beloved team sadly.

      1. If you haven’t figured out yet, the management gives a damn about Italians, and most of the clubs in Serie A don’t want to sell to a rival club.
The only one that you have mentioned is Kayode who is worth a try

    2. Scalvini is injured until november, Casadei is going to Napoli, Arsenal already signed Calafiori, but Kayode and Tonali purchases make sense. Also, Bove, Ricci, Rovella are good back-ups for main midfielders also all are defensive and won’t run at opposition as if they were playing rugby…

  4. Even if this is true, there is not a single club with an ounce of common sense that will pay 35mil for a player in his LAST YEAR.

Sh|t not, people who believe everything they read. All will be fine.

    1. Just like Manchester United crazily paid €50 to Lille for Leny Yoro will 11months left of his contract.
You lots aren’t serious here just like your management. Both Man United and Athletico Madrid will gladly pay €30m-€35m
For Fofana. He is relatively in his prime with further room for improvement, he was supposed to be a match-make from heaven for AcMilan but your Dumd and clueless management will continue to money-Pinch and lose out on all their top needed players…

    2. Pity they didn’t just pay 17.5 – 20m weeks ago.

The issue is as aluded to here that they agree terms with a player and ask them to force an exit, very poor strategy

When they say other teams agree with players first, of course that happens.

Major difference though, they pay for them.

A club if interested in a player must first ask the club if they are willing to sell, if so and they give you their price, you can decide if its worth pursuing.
By asking permission to negotiate with said player, you are doing so in good faith and aware of the price.
Turning around and offering half or less and asking the players to force and exit antagonises clubs and I’m sure players.

  5. Half of mercato is through and we’re mising a key puzzle player for Fonseca’s system.

Yeah, all is fine. If Milan don’t perform this season don’t bash Fonseca. Remember who f’d up for lowballing.

    1. Fons*tca is employee, management can sack him if team’s not performing well this season. You have players just manage ’em, train ’em, exploit ’em, motivate ’em, teach ’em how to play real football to their prime ceiling
