Sky: Probable Milan XI to face Atletico Madrid – big turnover expected from Spezia win

By Oliver Fisher -

Some team news has emerged on the eve of AC Milan’s crucial game against Atletico Madrid at San Siro courtesy of Sky’s latest update.

The Rossoneri will have their first home Champions League fixture in seven years tomorrow night and ironically they will face their last home opponent in this competition in Diego Simeone’s LaLiga champions Atletico.

According to Sky (via MilanNews), head coach Stefano Pioli is expected to field Mike Maignan in goal with Davide Calabria and Simon Kjaer to return to the starting XI on the right side of the defence, which will be completed by Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez.

Sandro Tonali and Franck Kessie should be the double pivot with Alexis Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao making up the attacking trident behind Ante Rebic, who is anticipated as the centre-forward with Olivier Giroud not yet at 100%.

Romagnoli will play if Kjaer is not at 100%, while Rebic over Giroud is not a certainty either at the moment.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer (Romagnoli), Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Tonali, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Rebic (Giroud).

  1. Why should Tonali be starter for this match? He played full 90 minutes in last 2 two matches. He must be exhausted. Bennacer is our first team player and has shown his impact recently.

        1. Agreed, they are definitely a better match right now. Kessie’s head hasn’t been in the game since last season. Honestly, even Rade was better and more focused on the pitch than Kessie.

    1. Tonali gives us stability and direction , he is the centre of all build ups, we rather have him substituted than asking to come and correct a disturbed team. Look what happened at Anfield, we had the best attck but the defence was easily exposed because Bennacer has a tendency of loosing the ball in our own half. I don’t mind
who starts alongside Tonali. He is everything at the moment.

  2. I like starting Kassie either he plays well (which I would welcome) or he plays bad and sees his value start to decline. Spurs and PSG probably won’t be offering 8-9 million euros a year for a guy who can’t show up for the CL.
