Sky: The two reasons Al-Ahli defender is unlikely to join Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are still looking for an opportunity to strengthen their defence between now and the end of the month, but it is unlikely to be Merih Demiral who arrives.

Speaking on Sky, Emanuele Baiocchini (via MilanNews) took stock of Milan’s pursuit of a central defender in the final days of the January transfer window, given that only Matteo Gabbia has arrived so far.

He states that if the opportunity were to arise, Milan would seize it in order to sign a strong player who would help get through until the end of the season, therefore potentially a loan deal.

Demiral could be that opportunity. However, there are a series of obstacles: the Turk has gone to play in Saudi Arabia and earns €13m net per season, but they are trying given that the Saudi Pro League is currently at a standstill.

However, Al-Ahli have not opened up to the idea of letting the former Juventus man leave. The idea has been discussed through intermediaries and Demiral is fine after the injury, but he may need a bit of time to get back to 100%.

Demiral has made seven Saudi Pro League appearances, with one goal and one assist to his name.
