SM: El Shaarawy’s return a concrete hypothesis – the obstacle to overcome

The idea of a potential return to AC Milan for Stephan El Shaarawy has been floated in recent days, and we have learned that it is indeed a concrete possibility.

As our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report, El Shaarawy’s contract with Roma will expire on June 30 and he will be free to choose another club if he does not agree a new deal with them before that date.

It was back in 2011 when the Rossoneri signed the winger from Genoa for €20.3m and then he left on loan in 2015 to Monaco and then was sold to Roma for €13m a year late.

Now ‘Il Faraone’ could make a return to Milan as the deputy to Rafael Leao. A quality reserve like El Shaarawy would be a great upgrade for the Milan bench who, especially during the derby, showed a huge gap compared to their city rivals.

The information we have is that his salary could be an obstacle. El Shaarawy earns €3.5m net per season at Roma, which the Rossoneri consider too much for a player who will not be a start.

However, there is the possibility that not having to pay a transfer fee could push Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to accept the requests of his agents, which is at present for him to earn the same at his next club.
