The eldest son of AC Milan legend Cafu has passed away while playing football, aged just 30 years old.

Reports from Brazilian outlet GloboEsporte claim that Danilo had complained of feeling unwell at their family home in Sao Paolo.

He was subsequently rushed to the Albert Einstein Hospital but despite the best efforts of the doctors, he was not able to be saved.

Danilo was the eldest of Cafu’s three sons and Sao Paulo, where Cafu began his career, sent the following message: “Sao Paulo Futebol Clube deeply regrets the death of Danilo, son of Cafu.

“The club sympathises and wishes the tricolor idol, family and friends a lot of strength.”

Another of his former clubs in Palmeiras added: “The Palmeiras Sports Society mourns the death of Danilo, son of Cafu, and expresses condolences to the world champion and his family.”

Cafu made well over 100 appearances for the Rossoneri, winning six major honours at the club and establishing himself as one of the best full-backs in the club’s modern history.
