Mike Maignan’s future is still at the forefront for many AC Milan fans, and it seems that the Rossoneri have a plan of action outlined.
As much as Milan do not want to think of the next steps, they cannot be left without. Ultimately, they are in a position where Maignan will either stay or leave in the summer; there is no avoiding that anymore.

So, they must plan for both scenarios; failing to do so would be catastrophic.

No action will be taken until Maignan makes a decision, and that much has already been established. However, football moves quickly, and if needed, the Rossoneri will be able to make things happen.
Of course, if he decides to leave, a replacement will be required, and with several options already suggested, it seems that the club have settled on Hugo Souza, as Sportmediaset reports via Calciomercato.com.

First of all, Hugo Souza is not a Nobody. He is truly excellent and just yesterday helped his team in winning the Copa do Brasil which unlike Coppa Italia, is a prestigious tournament there in that country. Second, a goalkeeper doesn’t need Serie A experience to do well in Serie A. He just needs to continue to do what he is excellent in doing, that is, saving shots and PKs. Other positions do need adaptation to a new league but not goalkeepers. They just need to have good reflexes, good positioning, good instincts, athleticism, and Hugo Souza has plenty of all that. From your comments I take it that you never saw Hugo Souza play. I have and he is brilliant.
By the way, would you call Dida, also a Brazilian goalkeeper, a foreign nobody when he joined Milan? No, he turned out to be a world-class goalkeeper and one of the best goalkeepers in Milan’s entire history.
I’ve seen Hugo Souza play multiple times and he reminds me a lot of Dida. Tall, athletic, great reflexes. If this report is not fake news and if we do hire him, I’ll be very happy.

First, what is being discussed is Hugo Souza as a potential next Dida, not the next Duarte. And I don’t care about Duarte because he is not a goalkeeper, he is a center-back.
Second, when Dida joined Milan in 1999, you were probably not born yet or still a toddler, so you don’t really know what happened.
Third, it is true that Dida was a nobody in Europe, but in Brazil, Dida had already won the Copa do Brasil before joining Milan, and guess what, he was also 26 years old at that time.
Fourth, when Dida first joined Milan, he did not immediately become the first-choice goalkeeper. He was loaned to Lugano and Corinthians before finally becoming Milan’s main goalkeeper in 2002, at the age of 29.
Fifth, yes, this is indeed a gamble, but it is a gamble based on history and previous experience, with a 50–50 chance. So yes, he could become the next Dida, or he could end up as a failed player.

My wife is Brazilian, I speak fluent Portuguese, I visit Brazil often to see her family, and I followed this season both the Brasileirão (which is their main domestic league) and Copa do Brasil, streaming a subscription to the Brazilian portal Globoplay, which is the streaming service for Brazil’s main television channel, TV Globo. I root there for the two clubs founded by the Italian community in Brazil, Cruzeiro and Palmeiras, both called in the past Palestra Italia. If you don’t know, Brazil has the biggest Italian community in the world outside of Italy. As an Italian, I greatly appreciate Brazil and their ties with Italy. Yes, I regularly watch Brazilian football, and who are you to doubt me?
Obviously you know nothing about Hugo Souza, but I do. Again, he is brilliant. I lament the fact that he plays for Palmeiras’ main rivals, Corinthians. I’ve been frustrated by his phenomenal performances when Corinthians play against Palmeiras; I was also frustrated that he was instrumental in eliminating my other Italian-Brazilian club, Cruzeiro, this December in the Copa do Brasil semifinals (ultimately Corinthians won the title, defeating Vasco da Gama in the finals). I surely hope that we do sign him, although given how bad our managers are and given how we do not have a competent scout, I have my doubts that this will happen. Yes, he does remind me of Dida.

Do you think that legendary players suddenly stop popping up? I would even say that Pulisic has the potential to becoming a legendary Milan player, given how he’s been consistently top 2 or at worst top 3 in Serie A for goals and assists, ever since he joined.

Either the sporting press in Italy just makes things up, or the football clubs have more leaks than the Kremlin. I suspect the former. There would be no advantage to the club to release Mercato information to the press.

That idiot furlani brought about this huge mess last year but still remains strongly in power. My wish for 2026 is that he disappears from milan management.
At the same time much as i like maignan, he has become irritating. It is clear that he (and/or his entourage) wants to leave to go to premier for a higher salary – ok, no problem, but just be a gentleman and say so openly. It is not fair to let the “decision” drag on and on and on. Milan need to find a replacement for next year though with furlani as king the search will not be for the best but for the cheapest.
