Sporx: Milan ‘withdrew from the race’ after seeing bid for Barcelona talent rejected

AC Milan have had an offer rejected for Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye, a report claims, and there is plenty of interest in him from around Europe.

According to what is being reported by Sporx in Turkey, Besiktas are the latest team to set their sights on Barcelona’s 20-year-old prodigy Mikayil Faye but they have a rival from France in the race to secure his signature.

It seems that he is now ‘very close’ to joining Stade Rennais in Ligue 1, the club that former Milan sporting director Ricky Massara joined ahead of the new season, and it would be a permanent deal.

Milan also made an offer for the defender but it did not get accepted, and after they managed to secure the arrival of Strahinja Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg they ‘withdrew from the race’.

Besiktas offered €10m but when the LaLiga giants insisted on €15m, the talks slowed down. Stade Rennais took the lead in the race by offering a €10m transfer fee plus €5m in bonuses.

That was enough for Barcelona, who also included a €30m buy-back clause in the agreement in order to shake hands with the Ligue 1 side. Faye wants to sign with a team where he can get playing time, something Milan might not have been able to give him.

  1. He already looks like a great LB, he will probably be world class. Barcelona wouldn’t even sell him but they can’t register Olmo and a few others so they have to.
