Tuttosport: Stability and image behind Investcorp’s decision to back Maldini and Massara

By Oliver Fisher -

With all the speculation that AC Milan are about to change owners again, it is natural that questions have been raised regarding current executives and members of the management.

The work done in recent seasons by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara as directors in addition to that of CEO Ivan Gazidis and Elliott portfolio manager Giorgio Furlani is there for all to see, and Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports that Investcorp seem keen on continuity.

Maldini and Massara should be safe, even with the possible change of ownership and even though their contracts expire at the end of this season. Both will be offered a renewal by the Gulf fund should they take control, to guarantee continuity and stability. To dismiss both – who have done a lot of work ahead of the summer – would be disruptive and possibly counter-productive.

There is also an important question of image not to be underestimated, clearly linked to the figure of Maldini who maintains a very high appeal in the Middle East and beyond. The former captain is a symbol of the club all over the world so getting rid of him would not be a wise PR move.
