AC Milan find themselves in a terrible position this season, and if they do not find a solution quickly, things will only get worse.
Barring moments, this season has been massively underwhelming for Milan, and whilst the easily identifiable stats prove this, for example, the table and points collected, there are a few underlying statistics which cause some frustration.
Starting with comebacks, something which has been a theme of the second half of this season. As Milan Press write, the Rossoneri have put themselves in that position in nine of 13 Serie A games since Conceicao has joined the club.
With this, there is the problem of conceding goals in the early stages of games, where Matteo Politano’s goal in the second minute showed what kind of game the Diavolo were in for. More worryingly is the fact that this is the third instance of a goal in the opening 120 seconds, and you would have to include the previous 20 seasons to find the same number of goals in the opening period. A horror show.
Then, equally alarming, is the fact that the Rossoneri have missed half of their penalties this season (4/8), doing so with four different players, something which has not happened since the 1954/55 season, when Liedholm, Sorensen, Nordahl and Schiaffino all missed, as reported by Milan Press.
45 goals scored out of 56 xg. 11 goals less than what an average team should get out of the chances created. With just a normal performance we would have probably 7-10 points more. Both on penalties and on open play our offensive conversion has been a disaster.
With just pk conversions we’d have 3-9 more points
