Telegraph: Maldini’s departure stalled move for talented Nigerian youngster

AC Milan had been negotiating to sign Nigerian youngster Daniel Daga but the departure of Paolo Maldini from the club opened up the door for other teams to make an approach, a report claims.

As has been reported by The Daily Telegraph in the United Kingdom, Championship side Watford are actually the team currently closest to signing the 16-year-old Daga.

He is a defensive midfielder who has been tracked by a number of Champions League clubs since his performances for Nigeria’s Under 20 side at the World Cup.

Milan were one of those teams and the Rossoneri discussed the move with the youngster who has been playing for One Rocket FC and Dakkada FC in Nigeria. When Maldini was sacked by Milan, it caused uncertainty and Watford have swooped in.

He was at Vicarage Road for their opening Championship match of the season, a 4-0 win over QPR. That suggests he is very close to joining the club.

  1. What about Federico Redondo? Why not him as DM? He could be available for peanuts since his contract expires in a year and a half and is really stepping his game up. I don’t want it to be another Enzo Fernandez story.

      1. Exactly. Transfermarkt value him at 4 millions. Ok, transfermarkt are a bit off with valuation but it cannot be more than 10 millions in this case.

  2. If he gets sold to Watford, Milan should consider getting Ismael Koné. I saw him play in Montreal. Very mobile, great speed, agility, passing ability, technique to beat players one on one, shooting skills and sees the field well in and out of possession. He is going to be a top talent in a couple years for sure.
