The Athletic: Bold Liverpool transfer decision leaves Milan alone in pursuit of Bundesliga defender

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan appear to be the only team left in the running to sign Schalke defender Ozan Kabak, at least according to a report from England.

The Rossoneri have been repeatedly linked with a move for Kabak over the past couple of months and they are expected to go back in for him once the window reopens given that a centre-back was not signed during the summer, but multiple outlets have also credited Liverpool with interest in the Turkey international.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool currently have no intention of signing a centre-back in the January window despite the fact Jurgen Klopp only has one fit centre-back available at the moment with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez potential out for the rest of the season.

Klopp is happy to keep faith in his current options and does not want to make a rash decision, while the board agree with him, but if results were to quickly turn south then they could reconsider.

For the time being though, it seems Milan are therefore the only team in the market for Kabak, and a lack of competition could mean they get an economically advantageous deal too with the Bundesliga side seemingly willing to sell.
