Report: AC Milan Women may vacate current stadium due to Monza’s promotion

According to Donne Nel Pallone, the AC Milan Women will not play their matches at the Stadio Brianteo next season.

The stadium (which is located in Monza) has been the Rossonere’s home for the past season. It’s the venue where the team has played their biggest matches, with the most notable game being between Milan and Juventus.

The reason why they will no longer play there is because of AC Monza’s promotion to Serie B. The newly-promoted side will want to play their games there next season, as it is the biggest stadium in the city.

Monza are also run by two figures who are quite prominent in the Rossoneri’s storied history. The team is owned by Silvio Berlusconi, and Adriano Galliani is their CEO. Since the Biancorossi will play their matches at the Brianteo next season, the Rossonere will have to find a new home.

Milan had wanted to play the first Derby della Madonnina between the women (in Serie A) at the San Siro last year. Unfortunately, they were denied the opportunity to do so. The reason for this centered on the maintenance of the grass, as the stadium’s staff considered the field ‘too delicate’ for them to play on. It would, therefore, need to be repaired while the men’s teams were on an international break.

The Rossonere played the last edition of the derby at the Brianteo.

Milan had also registered the stadium as a possible Champions League venue with UEFA. The Serie A Femminile season was cut short shortly afterward, so Milan will have to wait until next season to qualify for the competition.

Milan will have to find a new location for the team to play in for the upcoming season. They will have to alternate between this venue, and the Vismara, which is where they play their home matches against the ‘smaller’ sides in Serie A.

If any good can come out of this, it’s that it might pave the way for the team to finally play their ‘big matches’ at the San Siro. After all, it would be the most logical choice (that is, of course, assuming the team doesn’t go out of their way to have them play at another venue).

And maybe the dream of a Derby della Madonnina between the women at the Scala del Calcio will finally come true.
