Theo Hernandez praises ‘incredible’ Leao but banishes Scudetto talk

Theo Hernandez heaped praise on his wingmate Rafael Leao after he set him up during AC Milan’s 1-0 win against Napoli at San Siro tonight.

Milan were made to work very hard for all three points against Walter Mazzarri’s men, but in the end they got over the line thanks to Theo’s goal and a heroic defensive display to keep a clean sheet.

The decisive moment came in the 25th minute when Milan took the lead with what was their first clear-cut opportunity of the game.

Leao received possession down the left side and spotted a bombing run into the box from Theo, picking him out with a lovely through ball. The full-back took a touch and slotted it under the onrushing Gollini to win the game as it turned out.

Theo was brilliant at both ends and a definite man of the match candidate. He spoke to DAZN to reflect on the win and a job well done, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

You thoughts on the game?

“Very happy, we knew it was difficult. Napoli is a tough team. We worked well and thanks to that we won.”

Has something changed in your mentality?

“We had a bit of a complicated period, we worked giving our best and thanks to this we are winning.”

You and Leao linked up nicely for the goal…

“We didn’t pre-plan it (laughs). I do my job, which is to play well and make the fans happy. Celebration? I speak on the field. It’s true that there have been matches in which I haven’t been good but thanks to work every day I do better.”

Now Leao is just missing a goal…

“Yes (laughs). He is an incredible player, when he doesn’t score goals he gives assists. People don’t see the work he does every day on the field, we are happy to have him like this.”

Are Milan also in the running for the Scudetto?

“No. We do our job. Then when the derby arrives we’ll think about it. Now let’s think about Thursday.”
