Athletic: Thiaw’s ‘headstrong’ approach to Newcastle move secured quick Milan exit

The move from AC Milan to Newcastle United was done quickly for Malick Thiaw. However, it could have taken much longer.

It seemed like Thiaw’s exit was done in a matter of a few days, and it largely was. Newcastle were interested, and then the deal was completed. Now, he is a Magpie. Things, as Milan have seen, rarely happen that fast.

However, the reasoning why this was the case has been revealed today.

Thiaw pushed for Milan exit

According to The Athletic, Allegri was keen to keep the German defender – who Newcastle see as a ‘rough gem’ – partnered with the Geordies’ desire to spread the payment over a few years made it look like a deal would be difficult.

However, Thiaw showed that he was ‘headstrong’ about the Premier League move, with the report even emphasising that he ‘really wanted’ the move. His intentions were made so clear to the Rossoneri, and without this, a deal may not have happened at all, let alone as quickly as they did.

There was a ‘desperation’ to join, which certainly helped close the deal in less than 72 hours, with all parties left happy with the ending of the negotiations. With the money, as we know, Milan reinvested in Koni De Winter, who was unveiled last night.

  1. Selling for the most part, once it’s a good or key player, happens fast with us. It’s the purchases that drag along

    1. Only fast if there is EPL club coming with over price offer. All of elliot / RB big money sale player only from EPL club like tonali, tiji and thiaw.

      1. The Ricci deal seemed to happen rather quickly in a matter of days but if reports are to be believed then the deal had already been under way since early in the spring.

  2. I’m disappointed by the way he was treated and forced out with the 25 million-euro deal Como. Bennacer was treated the same way, and so was Mike Maignan. I don’t like it.

  3. Yeah right. Who really cares? “The player wanted the move.” As if he hadn’t been practically sold to Como for 25 millions, but for his rejection of the club. If he had accepted Como, this same news would have come out: “How Thiaw wanted and forced the move to Como”
