MN: Mönchengladbach star seen as ideal for Milan but is likely to remain a dream

Marcus Thuram is a profile that is very appealing to AC Milan but his salary demands will make a deal difficult, a report claims.

MilanNews recall how Roland Virkus – the sporting director of Borussia Mönchengladbach – has already admitted that the club will lose Thuram on a free transfer when his deal expires at the end of the season.

“We have to accept it, there are even bigger clubs where Marcus could go. The fact that the players will leave us without a transfer fee is not a positive situation and I can’t even sweeten the pill that much,” he said to Sport1.

Therefore, it is an opportunity for all the top European clubs to sign a quality forward on a free, and it is no surprise that he is already being linked to Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal ahead of the summer.

Milan and Inter have been watching the contractual situation of the 25-year-old, but his salary demands are likely to be beyond what any Serie A club can pay. For the Rossoneri it would certainly be an upgrade for the attack, which needs an injection given Olivier Giroud is 36, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is likely to retire, Divock Origi is struggling and Ante Rebic will soon say goodbye to his 20s.

Thuram is 192cm in height, has physique and explosive athleticism which – in addition to his sense for goal (14 in 22 games this season in all competitions) – would help the Rossoneri to unlock even those matches where defences are more closed and compact. However, it could well remain just a dream.
